I have heard braking power for those low brake dust ones is not as good compared to stock ones.
Is it true?

I had Portefields on my 2002 and they were low dust and grabbed slightly better, the only downside is cost and squeal if not installed properly. GPI-AMG didn't say what car he has but if it's a late model sport sedan or AMG with the 2 piston calipers, MB sells a low dust pad that comes on the newer cars that works as well as the Porterfields. The Pagid/Mintex/Textar pads are OEM style pads with OEM style dust. Their big advantage is price.

My experience with the porterfields I have on my car right now. Slightly better stopping power. Significantly less dust than OEM.

Not true, in my experience. I've had Pagid aftermarket pads on mine for the last year. They throw about 1/3 as much dust as the OEM pads (Lucas OEMs, in my case.) So, that is quite an improvement. I notice absolutely no difference in braking performance.

Notice each of these cars come with a variety of OEM pads from the factory. So the results you get with replacement pads will vary, according to what you start out with.

I have an 06 and I really need low dust pads, I can’t drive 30 miles (over exaggerating a bit) with minimal braking and not have brake residue all over my front wheels. Are all those pads available for my design caliper and if so where?

What model '06 do you have, the Sport Sedan or Luxury Sedan, they both have different calipers/pads/rotors.

Your dealer has low dust pads for the sport sedan models (2004.5 or newer) and the older AMG models. My car came that way from the factory and the dust level are much lower than my 2002. Also, it depends on your tollerance for dust. My 2002 would look like they need to cleaned after driving them around the block. After one week they would be mostly black. My 2004.5 just has a dusting after a week of driving, not black but noticibly dirty. The Porterfield pads would be similar to the MB low dust pads.

The OEM LOW DUST pads are nearly the same as the normal ones.

I know that because I run new low dust pads for the C32/C55.

Best Regards.

Buellwinkle, after carefully comparing the dust from the 2004.5's to the Porterfields, the Porterfield's have been much better with brake dust. It was tolerant with the 2004.5 OEM pads, but the Porterfield's have even lower brake dust than that. Granted, I don't have a heavy brake foot, but I also drive through hills every day (not always downshifting).

I'll have to try them. I was comparing my 2004.5 with the oem low dust pads to the 2002 I had with Porterfields and I found them to be very close but possibly the Porterfields on the larger brakes will dust less than they did on the 2002. I tried Porterfields on my kid's Mustang, wow, huge amounts of dust compared to Ford oem pads so I guess each application is different.

2005 C Wagon (No snickering please!)
The Porterfields have a lot less dust that adheres to the wheels because they do not meet the minimum braking effort required of OEM pads. They do, as previously noted, have better stopping power. This is even more true after several sucessive severe stops. How do they do this? They don't use brown sugar in their formula for the friction material like ATE, Jurid, Pagid, & Textar do.

I found that super slippery wheels do not retain as much dust from stock pads. I use instant detailer or rainX on the painted wheels. They stay clean longer. When racing, I use only instant detailer on the Centerlines, It makes it so much easier to remove those rubber tire scraps from the wheels and lower body.

Yea... At least they do in this country. Unless you were looking in a foreign Autozone.

I wouldn't trust brakes from Autozone. You own a Mercedes, get everything done right, and keep everything up to code. No point in sacrificing your safety with something from autozone.

That particular site may be confused as to exactly what model came in what trim. The C320 did come in both Sport and Luxury so they may have applied that logic to the C230 as well. All 2005 C230's sold in the US are the Sport versions.

There has been some discussion here about if some of the 2005 models came equiped with the 4-piston calipers vs. the 2-piston calipers. There's a thread that's maybe a week old with exact part numbers and pics, I'd start there. If you have trouble finding it, let me know and I'll dig it up.

04 c230 coupe
04 c230 sport coupe brake pads

when searching the forum for brake jobs I found mention of the autozone brake pads. But I wasn't able to determine if the 230 coupe (supposed sports) use the same brake pads as a standard c 230 sedan etc. Any one know?

Um what's this about a 2004.5 big brake kit? How would I know which one I have?
