I've installed Porterfields but have also seen posts on Mintex or its derivatives.

The Porterfields are somewhat more expensive, I think I paid ~$230.00 door-to-door for all 4 wheels. However, I'm very pleased with their braking power and very low dust. Yes, there will always be some brake dust no matter what pad you use! You're just trying to minimize it!

As to the installation... It took me more time to jack the car up and remove the wheel than it did to change the pads.

I also suggest that you go to Pep Boys and buy a "Anti-Squeal" grease to put on the back of each pad to keep it from... squealing, duh!

While at Pep Boys also pick up a can on Permatex Anti-Seize Lubricant at about $4.00. It comes in a grayish can/bottle with a built-in brush in the cap (as you pull it out). I've been using this stuff for years and ALWAYS brush it on ALL automotive screws and bolts, specially wheel lug nuts/bolts. This will allow you to remove ANY bolt/nut/screw in the future with minimal effort. I remember once on my old MB-300E and prior to using this product, I had to use a 5 foot pipe slipped over my lug wrench to take a wheel off. Scarry!!! This grease will withstand 1600 degree temperatures. Oh, and it's also great great for sparkplugs. I swear by it...

Email me if you have any further questions...

what is normal milege for brake pad wear?

hi all,

My 2002 c230k coupe just had the brake pads wear sensor came on. I have 20600 miles on it and I wanted to see if that is about normal or early or late or what? I'm thinking of getting the C32 brake upgrade kit but my tires are kinda bald too (yeah i know i'm driving a death-trap). I can get practically new Conti OEM replacements (224/45/17s) for under $3bills mounted and balanced and figure its a good deal (I wanted to go Toyo Proxies b/c they're light....how much does the Conti's weigh anyway?). Again budget is tight so any suggestions is appreciated.

Normal brake pad wear.....

20K on brake pads is good wear....I've heard as few as 8K miles and as much as 70K. How and where you drive is the determining factor....and it looks like you get about 20K out of yours. I recommend using after market pads that wear better and have less brake dust....Porterfields is my choice.

for tires, maybe you should try the Dunlop SP5000's. Good wear, quiet ride and a pretty good all season (including snow). They're a little more than the Conti's (IMO aren't that great with wear and noisy). Can get a set of 4 for probably $300-$350 using tirerack or directtire online.

Oh, as for pads, all depends on your driving habits. Some go early some go later. Our ML eats brake pads like it's no ones business. Fronts changed out at 22k, 36k, 50k, rears changed out at 26k, 44k.

I've done my C32 front brake conversion exactly 1 year ago. I've got a "Brake lining wear" message on my dash and I've only done about less than 10K miles. I checked the brake pads and its has still about 4mm of brake pads. I replaced the sensors but didn't put it back to the hole.

How thick is it for a normal C32 brake pads?... I need to know how much time I've got before my brake pads down to the last 2mm.

so get this...

I go ahead and take my baby to the dealer. I'm right at 30k miles, original pads. My philosophy is brake late, brake hard. I've been getting sporadic squealing, so ifigured with all that, i'm probably due for new brakes.... The dealer just called me and and told me I have more than 50% left on my pads. go figure.

rock on MB pads.

59,000 highway miles and pads look pretty good. Hoping for 80k!

I will be performing my first DIY oil change next week. Gathering all of the tools and parts this week.

i had them on my 96 cougar v8 (4000lbs and 9.5" front rotors) and it still did a good job. I also had them on my 99 a4 and there was alot less dust, no squeal (when installed right) and its a popular choice in the compact sports car world. I'll let u guys know and will try to take pics.

EBC brake pads

I Think that I am going to get EBC Greenstuff for my 2002 coupe. Tirerack is the cheapest price I could get them for 88.70. I also was looking for the porterfields but they are more expensive than the other the cheepest price that I found was $ 155.

I am a little scared on EBC brake pads because nobody here has them. If you know a little about them please tell me. I am gonna use new rottors to avoid any problems. That is in the front.

In the back I don't know if i can drill or retificated the rotors to put new brakes pads. On these I will use the OEM or pagids.

Please advise me on this

Thanksss
:p

I had them on my 97 civic and they wore out a lot faster then Honda OEM pads. There was a difference in the feeling. Better but more brake dust. I haven't had to need to change my yet.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the first reply. I read most of the comments on EBC and there is only one positive. Right now i have to think which is better for the price.

After market semmimetalic like pagid or OEM = $40 to 60
EBC greenstuff======================= $90
Porterfield========================== $155

I wanto to eliminate the dust produced for the OEM pads, But I read that EBC do something to the original rotors, so Porterfield are the best but it is worth to pay 155 for just a pad' set.

I am getting crazy because of this it

I found this rotor and brakes. The guy told tha the rotor have lifetime warranty if the rotor cracks or warp. They come with a paint coat on black or gold. And the pads are dustless. So what you think if I try those. The price is good

front drilled rotors for 156 for the set and 74 for the pads.

Please advise.

I also look for the Zimmermann Cross-Drilled Rotors but for our mercedes they don't make it for our car in the front. they just make for the rear and ir cost 50 per piece.

Help Help

I need some low dust brake pads for my 2004.5 C230 Sedan.

Can anyone recommend some low or no dust replacement pads that have applications for this car. I can't take it anymore!!!!!

Are you kidding, the 2004.5 brakes dust less than any MB I've ever owned. They even dust less than the Porterfield pads on my 2002 C230. Check
http://www.beverlyhillsmotorsport.com/ for brake dust shields, the only way you'll reduce brake dust for that car.
