The 2004 brakes on my sedan are definately a big improvement over the ones on my old coupe. But I still saw a significant decrease in the amount of dust when i switched from the OEM to porterfield pads on my 2004.

autozone pads

Well following the advice I found here, I installed the Autozone brake pads on my Kompressor Koupe. I was very impressed with how easy it was to do. Only thing I missed on the Pad change post was the fact that the wear sensor is only on the passenger side brake. Installed the pad with hole drilled on the drivers side then found the sensor on the other side and only one pad with hole... Duh'ooo just drilled another hole. It seems that it's only there to stablize the lower end of the sensor. Pads seemed quiet during test/ breakin drive. Unfortunately we are heading out for an RV trip so won't get to test them for a while. If I have any problems later I'll let you know.

BTW bought an Alternator for the above RV at Autozone last weekend. It turned out to be a bad unit despite their testing it twice. Cost me a lost day at the races and a fee for my mech to tell me all was well except the new Alt.. Not too sure about buying anything else there.

could these brake pad that you guys stated dmg the brake disc? i've heard that from my friend that aftermarket or other brand's brake pad with combination of the OEM brake disc will make the brake disc worn out quicker. Will the Pagid and Poterfield dmg it?

Mb rotors are notoriously soft. I know the porterfields haven't damaged my rotors but I can't speak for the pagids.

If I remember correctly, people have had mixed reviews on the Pagids. Pagid and Textar are MB OEM manufacturers. That doesn't mean the Pagid or Textar pads you get are the same as MB's, just made by them. Search the forums for more feedback on Pagid. Here's an opposing view -

I have the axxis metal masters with ny 4 wheel stopteck kit, and I love them. There is hardly any dust aver a month+ of driving with no washing.

I had porterfields R4S on my BMW. They stopped great, but squeeked loudly and had a lot of dust in my opinion.

I also thought Porterfields dusted too much on my kid's Mustang, certainly more than the Ford OEM pads. On my 2002 C230, they dust about the same as my 2004.5 C230 factory pads. In comparison to the factory pads on the 2002, the Porterfields are great. No matter what I did, the pads squealed but they did quiet down after about a month or so.

Has anyone tried any ceramic pads? They are supposed to be the ultimate in low dust. Satisfied Brakes makes them but they only show ceramic pads for rears.

Don't laugh, but Pep Boys sells ceramic pads now. Don't know if they make them for w203 yet but tried a set on my son's Malibu along with their treated rotors. Almost no dust, no noise, wear exceptional well, and stop exceptionaly well. Last time I checked (2 years ago?) they said MB was last on their list for parts because "MB folks rarely do their own maintenance".

I emailed Satisfied Brakes to see if they'll make them (they sell them for rears only, go figure). Haven't heard back, must be a Canadian holiday. Satisfied makes many different brands, it could be that Pep Boys uses Satisfied.

Which brake pads for 2002 C230 Coupe?

I'm looking for a set of Pagid/Textar pads for my front brakes. I'm finding a number of conflicting part numbers depending on which site I'm at. I have a 2002 C230 Coupe with the C7 sport package. Chasis 203.747 Engine 111.981

MBUSA Fast Moving Parts Catalog (http://www.mbwholesaleparts.com) lists the part number as 003 420 26 20

The russian mb club (http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb.asp) lists the part number as 003 420 60 20

http://mercedes.thebenzbin.com/ translates both of these MB part numbers into this part number N1010-138475 (Pagid or Textar OEM), however, this site does not list that part number for my car. Instead they list this part number N1010-168536 and it doesn't indicate if it's Pagid. I get that same part number from several other sites, but they don't show the manufacturer and I don't want to end up with cruddy off brand pads.

Finally, autohausaz.com lists a Pagid pad for my car with part number 003 420 26 20, the same number indicated by the MBUSA Fast Moving Parts Catalog. I usually order from autohausaz and their price is very good ($63.97 shipped), but here's the problem with them. With that part number it says "Not for models with Evolution or AMG Evolution Sports Package." Since I have C7 package, isn't that the same as the Evolution package? But I thought I had read somewhere that all 2002 C230 Coupes had the same brakes. If that's the case, it shouldn't matter whether I had the C7/Evolution package.

Can anyone help me make sense of this? TIA,

Frank

2006 C230 Brake Pads

I just bought an 06 C230 sport, can anyone tell what brake pads I can get that would eliminate some of the brake dust that I get from the stock pads. I had Hawk pads on my 04 350Z which were practiclly dustless. any help would be great.

Porterfields have been a popular upgrade. They're kind of pricy though.
I suggest you search the forum...

Wow, 13K miles, ouch. Mine are less than half worn at 25K miles. Did the light come on in the dash telling you that you need pads? Many shops are conditioned to say you need pads when you don't. On my wife's Honda, I replaced the rotors because they were warped (dumb tire shop overtightened the lug nuts) and the pads still had plenty of life in them. I took it to the dealer for the 90K service (I hate doing fluids and most of that service was fluids). They not only told me I need brakes but I only had 1mm left so it was dangerous to drive. I told them they must be looking at the wrong car because I had them removed and in my hand the night before and they looked fine to me with about 1/4" left. They told me it was odd that the rotors were brand new and the pads were worn, haha, thieves! Like I would have put worn out pads back in after having it completely apart to save $30. Before that they convinced my wife every 12K miles she needed pads when in reality she went over 20K miles before I thought she needed pads.

HaHA. The light will come on when you have 3mm left, as the sensor is at least that wide. Add 3mm to that and you probably have at least 10,000 miles left on the pads. I would NOT change pads until the sensor says to do so. I have Pagids on mine.
