Technically, there are 4 holes that you can screw in (where the euro holes are). I showed pics of the top screws only. Post questions, if you guys have any.

Drex,

That looks good and an inexpensive way to make it work.
btw, i bought some vinyl rubber stoppers to absorb the rattle. It's those clear round things used on glass coffee tables. The stuff that's in between the glass and the actual frame of tables placed on the corners. Thanks again for your "how to".

these inserts come primered when ordered new from MB (they do not come in a prepainted color)...whatever I did get in the past was whatever I could get - don't hold your hopes up high for an insert in 775

Hi Drex,

I wasn't able to take a picture, but the next time you are at the dealer, check out a CLS or new S, or an ML to see what it looks like.

The part number is:

A 169 817 02 11
Suggested retail: $29.50

However, if you are interested I might be able to swing something cheaper. Drop me a pm if you want to move forward.

I'd be interested too. How much cheaper would you be able to get it. When do you think you might be able to take a pic (if possible)? Advanced thanks.

I know this isn't the best picture in the world, but it's the best I can do at the moment.

Hope this helps!

Wow, that's really nice looking. Thanks for the pic, Mike!

Well, since I've already got my "ghetto" one on there, I'm happy, but for those that purchase a Euro trunlid in the future, this is very nice and no extra work involved.

Mike, thanks for going out of your way to post a pic. That actually looks pretty good!

hmmmm, Drex, maybe I'll stick with our "ghetto" makeshift license plate fastener too. My dealer is quoting $34.95 for this part. That's approximately 5 times what I bought at Kragen.

Yeah, that's the same thing I've been wondering ever since he took his car off the market. But he's been MIA. I think he might've moved, but can't remember.

Can't make it to the meet, Doug. I really wish I could, but I have a relative that's moving into my house next week and haven't prepared the room she'll be staying in, so gotta do that all weekend. If I take a break, I might roll out with my new grille (Hopefully it'll be fully painted by then). If I do, I'll let you all know.

Yeah, it was a brief period of time that he put up an add for it. I was considering dumping my car to pick up his, but by the time I PM'd him to ask about it, he decided not to sell. That was before he did the quad exhaust swap.

I actually gave in and bought this part from my local MB. Thanks Mike for the part number. Drex, thanks again for all your help with the previous faster. I decided to order the part and give it a try. After doing so, it actually looks very clean and secure. I bought 4 metric screws to hold the license plate fastener to the euro trunk lid. Also, an additional metric screws were used to hold the actual license plate and my "Mercedes" frame.

Arnold, didn't even catch this post until now! Nice! I like it and it looks like the plate sits closer to the body of the car than with my "ghetto" style mod.

How much did this end up costing?

Drex, although it did cost 6 times more than the part from Kragen/Napa autoparts ($34), I am very pleased with it, especially from the side profile. With my "Mercedes" frame, you can't even see the license plate fastener. Mike (mbbodytech) offered to get it for me at 1/2 off, but I'd have to give him my credit card info. If it was paypal or check, then I would probably have him get it for me. I'm sure Mike is an honest guy, however, i've been burned by my cousin before in ringing up charges, thinking I wouldn't catch it. I had to pass up on Mike's offer because of this past incident. It's just me in being extra cautious.

Question HELP! Where can I find european plate insert?

I imported my 2001 w203 direct from Japan. I've purchased a street legal european license plate for my car but it doesn't fit in the insert.

Can anyone help me find out where I can get one? I tried a dealer, they emailed back two hours later claiming they searched high and low and can't find one.
