LED's come like that. They wired the LED's to be the brake and the parking light. It's not messed up, just how they decided to wire it (which, I think is part of the problem with the LED's going bad). That's why I was going to try to fix the LED's (re-solder new LED's) and re-wire the parking light to have the bottom parking lights light up like the 2005-present w203's. Thing is, you can't just re-wire it and still retain the functionality of the parking light. the socket for the inside parking light has to be changed to a dual filament bulb in order to retain functionality of the rear fog (which is why I still haven't done it - i.e. too lazy to go to the store and figure out which socket will fit perfectly, but my guess is 1157 socket).

Take a look at my "current mods" link in my signature. I have a couple pics of the LED taillights w/ the lights on. You'll see that the LED's are the parking light, as well as the bottom lights.

Extra pin is for dual running lights. On 2001-2004.5 models, only the outside running light stays on. When the rear fog is turned on, it looks like an extra bulb.

On 2005-present models, both the outside and inside running lights stay on. When the rear fog light is turned on, the driver/inside running light gets brighter. In essence, the inside running lights are dual filament vs. single filament in prior models.

I confirmed this in comparing a 2005 bulb to my 2004.5 bulb.

My LED's worked fine for a while (probably a little over 1 year), but eventually burned out. At some point, I'll probably sit down and fix it.

I installed mine today. Anyone else notice poor fitment? Is Eagle Eyes the only company that makes them?

Fitment should be near perfect if you tighten them correctly. It might take some elbow grease.

I sure did take elbow grease. I didn't want to apply too much pressure before they broke somehow.

Fitment should be very close to perfect (maybe slightly bigger gap between the rear fender and top of light, but not much).

No, Eagle Eyes is not the only company. There are a lot of different re-sellers. These lights are manufactured by a company in Taiwan. What that company's name is, I'm not sure.

The lights look fine, but what I mostly notice is the C240 AMG badging.

Too many to list
Looks good but I still prefer the stock ones from the 05+. Also, I've heard that those LED tail lights go out often. Lastly, C240 AMG? Lose the badge or be prepared to defend yourself from those who don't like posers.

If that's all it's going in for, just use dental floss to remove the badging (might need to heat up with a hair dryer), then rub off the rest with your thumb. 5 minute operation, and it's free. Just a heads up for you.

If it's a freebie that you're getting while your car's getting some other stuff done, that's ok too.

Yeah a buddy of mine owns a local paint shop and is having one of his workers shave all the badges in the back off, " I cant wait !!! looks so clean! And then they are waxing/detailing the car. Sun is finally out here, so I cant complain about a freebee ya know? I would have just done it myself cuz the amg isnt even, even. And with my OCD its driving me crazy! , I figured I would get chewed for it, But its all good.

Why don't the lights go all the way across the bottom? It appears that there is a light out on the outside of the lense.

That is the light pattern, you trade the bottom row, for the top leds.

No. That's not correct. The 2005 OEM running lights light up the entire bottom row (2 bulbs). the 2001-2004.5 only light up the outside running light.

The LED running lights, it looks even better if you swap the bulb placement. Where you currently have the running light on the bottom (inside bottom), you can actually swap the sockets and it looks even better than how you currently have it. Take a look at my pics in my Yahoo pic site. I didn't take down the LED taillight pics from before.

I am supposed to be working on a project that will allow for the running lights to function a-la the OEM 2005 lights, but haven't gotten a chance to do that.

Just an FYI, I had these LED lights before and they only lasted 1 year. After 1 year, the LED's started to go.

The ONLY reason there are running lights on the top LED's is because of the manufacturer wanting a "different" look to them. Unfortunately, I think it's part of what contributes to the LED's going bad.

Why? The only Badges that would need to be "shaved" would be the star emblem on the trunk. Everything else is stick on.

tommy was trying to let you know that all you need is dental floss that you slide behind the emblem and it comes off. That simple. In fact, you can take it off yourself and then bring it to the shop for them to detail.
