Service 'A' came up today....at 29,200 miles?!?!?!

Just as the topic said, today my service A came up on my screen yet it has 29,200 miles on the car. Again its an 04 and before we bought it, it did get an oil change from South Bay Mercedes. Whats up with this? And an A service is just an oil change and alignment correct?

Partially correct (I think). Correct on the fact thats its basically an oil change. Incorrect on the alignment. Not sure though, I don't have an '04 that has the free maint. So if alignments are covered under that, then you are fully correct. If you had an '05 like me, alignments aren't covered after 12mths/12k.

If you had an oil change, it has nothing to do with the service indicator coming up. It will come up around every 10,000 miles. It is an oil change, top off all fluids, correct tire pressure, test battery, and basically inspect everything. Alignment is not included.

Too many to list
I just did my Service A yesterday at the local dealer. My came up at 8400 miles. Costed me $170....I asked the SA what does it include. His exact words were...."oil change and top off all fluids." Absolutely absurd! And I thought $45 oil change from Lexus was expensive.

Besides an alignment, what else is usually covered for the first 12 months? Brakes pads, rotors, balance tires, etc?

Yes, everything on the car is covered in the first 12 months/12,000 miles. After that period, wear items such as brakes, tires, etc. arent covered.

As for the A service, on top of the oil change and topping off all fluids, they should also be doing a thorough inspection of your car, setting the tire pressure, performing a battery test, checking and replacing any bulbs that may be out, lubricating your door, trunk, and hood hinges. Also spraying silicone on the door seals to keep the rubber soft. If they are really only doing the oil change and topping off the fluids, they are ripping you off. At my dealership, we take care of peoples cars when they are paying good money for a service. Afterall, the tech should be getting paid around 1.5-2.0 hours for the A service.

Service A past due 3 days

computer says service A is past due for 3 days on my 05 C230K
i have only 8000miles on it. bought it in Nov 04.

Called the sales, he said it shouldn't come up till 12000miles, and he asked me to call service dept. sometime next week.

Just wondering how much does it cost. Asked local mechanic, they charge $139 but no loaner. Not sure about dealers, will give them a call Mondy. Sales person refuse to tell me how much it cost.

the service reminder in the car goes "A, B, A, B" If the dealer or whoever changed the oil last reset the computer it'll automatically go to either A or B depending on whether it was on A or B.

The mileage clock increase or decrease depending on your driving condition as well.

It will come up around 13,000 on new models or 1 year whichever comes first. Your service indicator was probably set around this time a year ago at the factory so thats why it now saying you need an A service now. Every dealer is slightly different on pricing but it should be really close to the same price as the other side shop quoted you. 2005 models are a little cheaper for the services than the older models since you dont get the free ones while in warranty.

Service Schedule

My service advisor said the dealer set the service interval. After mine came up at 13000 miles they set it to show the next service at 10000 miles.

Easy way to check that is just use the steering wheel controls to scroll through menus and see how many miles are left until your service is needed. See if it says 12,xxx or 9,xxx.
