this is a stupid question, but, are side markers and euro impact stripes the same?

the side markers are lighted reflectors placed within the side of a regular impact strip and comes on all US models. the euro impact strips basically do not have a light/reflector, and it's just a single, complete strip of plastic, and is standard on Euro spec models. so just imagine your car w/o the orange light/reflector, and that's what a euro impact strip looks like. hope that helps.

this is in the owner's manual in the bulb replacement section.

push towards the back of the car and pop it out from the front w/ any thing you find useful.

Hi Guys,

Finally decided to see if I could pop out the amber sidemarkers on my '05 230 sedan today.

As per previous thread, tried just pulling them off with my fingers. Definitely not possible! I may not be Arnold, but I'm not ridiculously weak either. I ended up wrapping a key in a thin microfiber cloth and used it as a mini-crowbar to pry out the front of the sidemarker.

When it came out, I was a little surprised at what I saw. It wasn't just the lens that came out. The lens was firmly attached to the lamp housing, so the whole housing+lens came out together. It was tethered to the car by a pair of wires disappearing into a hole in the bumper.

The lens seemed very tightly attached to the housing, and I could not get it off. I didn't want to try too hard, because I don't have a replacement lens on hand, and I didn't want to drive around with a cracked or broken sidemarker.

My impression from reading previous threads was that the housing stayed put while just the lens came out. I assume most of the people who have done this were pre-'05 owners. Maybe they changed the design?

All you pre-'05 owners, is your sidemarker bulb housing attached to the lens, or does the lens come off the bumper by itself?

Have any '05 owners changed their sidemarker lenses?

The entire housing is replaced, not just the lens.

Where'd you get yours? Do yours have the slight misfit problem?

Got them off ebay...the 05' are hard to find though. They fit very well, maybe not as snug as the original ones. Overall, I very happy with the way it turned out.

The originals are damn snug, as I noted in my original post.

The ones I find on ebay appear to be Makoto, F1 and Toys Auto. Is one of those the vendor you purchased from? I think yours must have been different because the ones I saw on ebay were all totally clear (you can see the bulb), while yours are "frosted" (can't see the bulb).

The 01-04 side markers won't fit in an '05 bumper? Really?

I got mine from F1. I have the c320ss 2005. They fit great. Plus they look soooo much better than the amber colored ones.

Will those fit though. I emailed Makato who has clear lenses for 01-04 and he said they won't fit the 05's. So if those ones by F-1 say 01+ I'm not sure those fit.

Anyone know?

I have clear markers for my 98 Eclipse and I've been fine in San Diego. I would think the cops would stop someone in an Eclipse before someone in a Benz.

i was joking. PRHeloPilot knows what i was talking about. besides I have Euro impact strips with no amber lights and euro spec 05 taillights with no red light on the side. im breaking the law just as much.

SDPD never gave me a hard time when i lived in SD. i had euro stips, no front plate and tint. SDPD are pretty cool, they are just to busy shooting the homeless.

That MAKATO guy sells you the item but charges WAY TOO MUCH for shipping and when I asked him he says it includes handling. Handling ? and the other shippers don't have to "handle" their items ?? That's why I went with F1sports and besides F1 says " '01+ ".
