Sidemarkers

So that's what you did with them...I'm impressed. Hobby People, huh? The one accross from Westside Pavillion?...LOL...That's a trip. Did the same thing back in the day with taillights that had orange indicators. We would paint the orange section of our taillights w/ Candy Apple Red hobby paint and cover it with 3 or 4 coats of clear coat!...Oh, the memories.
Anyways, I think the smoked with the orange lens looks good and functional. I don't know if it was just the picture, but it looked like the Black paint made the color look a little more Red than Orange when the sidemarkers were lit up. Be very careful with that. Red light near the front of a car is a "no-no" and it could be more attention getting than you want. I'd do this for my car too, but since it's blue, it won't look as good on my car being "smoked".
Otherwise, it looks good. Sell your clear sidemarkers. I'm sure there are a few newbies on here who still need some.
I think it may be the pic, but it is sure a lot darker orange now...
Phil, you working in Century City tonight? If so, let me know and we can meet up for a bit before I take these taillights off. They're coming off as soon as I hear back from the seller about how to work out an exchange.

and none of them had the amber version of the bulb. Do any of you know a chain the carries them?
Also, can I run the sidemarkers with no bulbs on a full-time basis?
.... i doubt he is going for the "clearly illegal" clear lighting...... Check out sylvania's website... it lists all the bulbs for the cars including 203's. Don't remember if they make it...... but if so then you are in good luck. Google it at worst once you get style of light bulb and see what comes up. Good luck mang..... see how easy it is to get an answer when you first try to search, people?
:p :p

Sylvania doesn't carry it, none on Ebay, didn't see any on google... is this a big trick (ha ha, let the noob's get clear sidemarkers and watch the fun!)
Will there be any problems if I just remove the bulbs from the sidemarkers (isn't that how a eurostrip works?)

The W203's come with white W5W lamps, which is a European designation for a 10mm wedge based lamp that consumes 5 watts of power. Americans have been making minature lamps with three or four digit designations since Edison wanted a lamp in the front of his toy train.
While many people tout the 194 as a replacement for the W5W, it is not. It only uses 3.78 watts. It is not as bright as a W5W, but it does last longer.
The closest sub for W5W is 168. It is rated @ 4.9W.
Amber lamps are getting scarce because the dye for yellow was full of cadmium, which has been shown to spoil the drinking water. Amber 1157 lamps are a high volume part that is now made with a different, more expensive amber coating, but the 168 and his buddies are not very popular in amber livery, so they are hard to find. Most manufacturers have erased the part numbers from their catalogs.
You can find some old stock lamps in non-chain auto parts stores, Usually under the number 168NA.
Another approach is to use Rosco Colorine bulb dip, 07615 Canary Yellow is about right. It comes only in pints, you dip a clear lamp into it, and a transparent paint sticks to the outside. It comes in several other fashion shades. Get it from stage lighting shops.

I didn't know the 194 wasn't right, that probably explains why it wasn't that bright, I thought it was the silver color (which I'm sure contributed to some part of it though).
I'm too chicked to try the LED's b/c I don't want the resistors melting something on my car nor do I want to see a bulb out warning in my cluster...
thanks for the info!
