Kleeman Pulley and Springs
The pulley has made a phenominal difference. Holding the stock pulley in one hand and Kleeman's in the other really shows how much of a weight difference there is. Carl, remember that one with all those holes! My car is an automatic and now there is instant power at any speed. With the stock pulley there was always a lag at low speeds. This is a simple quick way to add 30+ horsepower and the A/F ratio issue is a mute point at this altitude. The 60 mile drive back to Denver was a blast.
I also had the Kleeman springs installed keeping the stock shocks. With these springs the car isn't lowered enough to have any adverse effect on the stock shocks. Brandon let me drive his wifes 230 to see what I thought before mine were installed. What impressed me the most was that many other companies will try to sell both springs and shocks and as many of you know the Kleeman package is $2 grand. Brandon said all I needed were the springs for $400 and after driving his wifes car I agreed.
You get what you pay for and paying a little more for Kleeman is worth it. I feel like I am driving a new car.
I saw those sway bars this morning, they are next
have you considered changing the fuel quantity setting to stage 2 or 3 in order to deal w/ potential a/f ratios?
btw, congrats on the upgrades
personally, i'm often suprised to find myself "catching up" to the cars in front of me and wondering how i got there so fast... i guess i need to adjust my driving habits.
Welcome to the pulley club, did you do the ring or alloy pulley? It is a blast to drive with the extra ponies. The a/f ratio should not be problem up there but if you get a chance to check it wouldn't hurt.
If it's the alloy pulley, did you watch them do the install. I'm curious if the took the crank pulley bolt off with an air gun or used the official MB flywheel lock to help with getting the bolt off and on. I've never seen one done on an automatic and was curious.
I did change the fuel settings to stage 2 per Kleemans suggestion
I got the alloy pulley not the ring. I held a stock pulley with the ring on it and the alloy one at the same time and the weight difference is even that much more noticeable. I watched the whole installation and the bolt had to come off and go back on with an air gun which meant removing the fan but that only took a few minutes.
They also changed the alternator pulley

$75 for installation for all that stuff, that is a deal. Evosport wanted $300 for just the springs.
That's what I thought. The reason I asked is because Mark Cummins told me the reason for the MB flywheel lock (about $300) is because the crank bolt is a stretch bolt (don't know what that means) and you can damage it with an air gun so it's recomended that you use a torque wrench and flywheel lock. Linh used an air gun on his SLK without any problems since, like you said the electric fan has to go to make room for the gun. If I had the automatic on my car I would have used the air gun.
But Bull what does MB know right….
Mark is right about using the MB tool for the job. MB says that you can cause damage by not using the MB tool.

I don't know and I guess neither does Brandon. Lucky for us we both have 6 speeds.
Randy
And it makes a diffrence with a 6 speed??? an impact wrench does not know if you have a 6 speed>>
Randy
On the 6-spd you put the car in gear and use the parking brake and you can use a breaker bar or long handled rachet and a torque wrench. Can't do that on the automatic as the crank will spin when you turn the bolt.
Randy
Wrong. It's action of the Impact that is the problem.... Once you stop the crank from turning it's the same action.. It's all in the details Bull.

And want to change my answer about being a tuner, I'm not a tuner or a hot rodder, I'm a C hacker. Can I change my login name from Buellwinkle to C-Hacker?
I still don't understand, if I lock the flywheel the crank can't spin or if I put the car in gear and lock the brake the crank can't spin. So what's the difference? I didn't use an impact gun, I used a long handled rachet turned by hand to remove the bolt.

So now Kleemann is recommending changing the fuel setting to stage II. What happen to the so called adaptive ECU that he said it will take care of the fuel if needed. It look like me and Buell is doing all the testing for them....lol.
Do you think we can meet the EPA and CARB testing guidelines and get these pulleys certified for them too?
Randy, air guns are used to do a lot of maintenance on cars like remove wheels but MB probably has a rule against that and all wheels must be hand torqued. Real world - air gun, MB shop manual - torque wrench.

Is your car running out of spec now, or are you under the epa spec's?
That is not true. We use air guns on wheels but then torque them with a torque wrench, to the spec. We don't use the air gun on the crank pulley bolt. That is real world. Not every thing is a short cut.

I only use my car for racing and off-road
Actually I wish we only needed to meet EPA specs in California but for a product to be called 50 state legal it has to meet California Air Resource Board testing requirements and an EO compliance number is assigned. The top performance tuners do this all the time and advertise so on their websites with their CARB EO#. Without this number you may fail a smog inspection and be required to remove the mod even if the mod polutes less. The first part of a CA smog inspection is visual, they look for smog equipment that has been tampered with and specially any clues of mods. If they see a mod they can fail you if you don't have the CARB number for it. The problem is that if a shop installs this on a car that is not registered for non-comforming off highway use they can be fined big time and all it takes is one complaint. I've seen it happen to my local Harley shop. You people in Florida lead such carefree lives. Our motto is that we don't breath any air we can't see.
Maybe in your shop but around here I can't even get the dealer to do an oil change that doesn't require a 2nd visit. I doubt they even know what a torque wrench is.

Now you made laugh, here they let the car down off the lift and torque each lug before it goes out, that is if the wheel was taken off of course.
We have had Renntech cars in CA for a long time with some high profile owners and have not had an issue with failing a smog inspection. I'll check into it some more.
