2005 foglights, whats the difference?

Ok I have a 2003 C230K with factory BiX lights. I am getting the 2005 foglights installed with my 2005 front end. What exactly is the difference between pre 05 and 2005 foglights? the bulbs are the same, they are both clear, they wont turn on when my blinkers go on, because that has to do witht he car, not the lense itslef. is it just the wider angle beam that makes the difference? Thanks for your input.

Doesn't the '05 + have the driver enhance lighting feature where depending on which way you are moving the vehicle, the fog light beam will focus the angle of light in that direction?

I don't remember exactly what the change was, but for some reason that sticks out in my head.

yeah but doesnt that have to deal with wiring or something of the car? not the actual lense.

Not sure if it was based on the wiring/system or the angle of the bulb or both. Only thing, from what I've read in the past, is that the foglight would act similar to how the BMW headlights worked where it pointed the light in the direction you were headed for safer lighting?...Something to that affect.

Regardless, it definitely has nothing to do with the lens because the lenses on my car are clear as well.

the active headlights use an actuator and are controlled by the car. the foglights are a passive system if i remember right. they turn on when you turn on your blinker but that has to do with the car itself. i do see where the outside of the bulb area is cut out to let more light shine towards the outsideedges of the car.

From the pics you posted, I can't really tell the difference. I was trying to look at my foglight pics to compare, but it's hard to tell.

Doug,

the reflector is suppose to be different on 05 as to accomidate the "on when blinker" feature. It does not make a whole lot of difference. You can also enable active fogs on 203's. The fogs will come on depending on the angle of the steering wheel and speeds less than 40 and when dark. They brighten up slowly and dim slowly to prevent the bulb going out fast. I personally don't like this feature though and prefer them coming on with the blinkers.

oh, and before people ask, this feature is for 2005 and newer cars with updated front SAM modules. It may be possible on 04 or 04.5 cars but I have not tried it.
