Option Code 249: Auto Dipping Mirror I

Let me ask this question in a different way. When I bought my car from Mercedes Benz. They printed up my VIN options from Net Star. The 4th one down is code 249 Automatically Dipping Mirror I. I dont have the 10 way power seats or the memory option. Is there a way to activate this dipping mirror option since my car is already equipted with it? I just read the thread from EKY and now I am hoping I can get this optiopn to work?

I think what we have here is a clash of the English language as spoken in the US v. UK. The drivers door and interior rearview mirrors on NAFTA market cars with the sunroof option contain a liquid that causes the image in the mirrors to become darker at night. If you switch to reverse, the mirror become brighter almost instantly. The folks in the UK call this auto dipping, but we Americans call it auto dimming. I can understand your confusion with UK English. The first time I went to London, a very pretty girl behind the counter at the hotel asked me "Can I knock you up in the morning?" I thought, what a country!
You are asking if you can add the feature to tilt the mirror down on the passenger side when reversing. Yes, but it is not simple. You need to change the passenger door module that controls the mirror. You then need to change the mirror mechanism to one that has the "memory" position feedback sensor. You might need a new mirror cable too.
Now it gets tricky. You need the dealer or someone with a Star Diagnostic computer to set your car to move the mirror when reverse is sensed.
It might be cheaper to just push the down arrow on the mirror control switch when reversing.

what i think is a tad ****ed up is that in my quick reference guide, it says the car came equipped with it, like it was a standard feature.....that sucks. if its a goddamn option, tell people its an option so they dont think the damned mirror lowering option is broke!

If youve got the option just put the power mirror switch on the passenger mirror like your gonna adjust it. when you put the car in revers it dips to look at your rear wheel
