spark plug

I just found out about these... i searched the forum and didn't find anything so i thought i would pass it on. www.e3sparkplugs.com They supposedly improve fuel economy and power. Every little bit helps... Let me know what you guys think. I might get them to see if there is any difference.

Not quite snake oil...

...but close. I do not believe any of their claims and they don't back them up with research, just more claims. Their claim to fame seems to be a new algorithm for testing. I would be VERY worried about matching the recommended heat range with a basically untried product.

I used that e3 spark plugs in my lawn mower (front wheel drive) and my weed whacker

3-5 mins use in my lawn mower, I returned it in the package and returned it at Lowe's.

What exactly did you get from the video? It showed you some graphs and videos but what convinced you that the plug does something other than provide a spark?

The video of the "Flame Front" is the part that caught my attention. Having worked in the motor industry, I understand the meaning behind how a clean burn can increase engine power and lower emissions. Low emissions show a complete burn.
That is before the cat, after the cat means sqwat..

Even with a Dyno, you only get graphs.

But what plug are they comparing it to? Is it an iridium plug or a standard plug? I'd like to see comparison between our factory platinum/iridium Bosch plugs to these.

How a plug performs in a lab means nothing of how it performs on a real car over the span of 30-50K miles. I think a major complaint of the E3 is their short life. I'll stick with tried and true technology. Plat or Iridium; Bosch or NGK.

Fit the OE Bosch or NGK plugs. Good for 100K if operated in the self cleaning range often enough.

The rest is all BS.

if this plug improves fuel consuption and power by just 1pct...basically for free.. don't you think the car companies would put it in every car!

There are some good aftermarket products that haven't been adapted by mainstream auto manufactures. However, spark plug is not one of those. There is really no compelling reason to go with any plug other than OEM Bosch/NGK (as suggested by other members above).

I do realize that there are many wild claims by aftermarket suppliers that use a lot of hype to convince ignorant consumers. I am sure that there are some very good technologies that do improve economy and power that need to be investigated for feasability in mass auto market (cost, reliability, manufacturability etc). I doubt that if something works and is low cost that the auto manufacturers would not jump on it.

I am an electrical engineer and I regularly see bul**** claims in high end audio. I suspect that if I was knowledgeable in the physics of combustion I would also see lots of bull**** claims in the aftermarked performance/fuel efficiency market also. Most consumers are completely unable to judge the validity of so many of these wild claims (weight loss informamercials and all sorts of other miracle cures come to mind) and are duped.

If its too good to be true.. its too good to be true.

Now if we all simply prefered smaller, lighter cars with smaller engines we could save lots of gas.... but we like our sport/performance cars! Hard for us to change our ways!

have a great day

I've seen what look like conflicting opinions on using anti-seize compound on spark plug install. What is recommended?

Some plugs, like OEM, have a micro coating that is an effective anti seize. They are designed for "one time use" which means the coating is gone once you remove it. I sparingly use a ceramic based anti seize even with coated plugs.

^ NGK Iridium are OEM for the 4-cylinder M271. Not sure what the OE spark plugs are for your V6 but I'm sure NGK Iridiums will work just fine.
