Anyone Else's OEM CD Changer Skip While Playing Burned CD's?
I've noticed that no matter how careful I am with placing the burned cd's from my computer directly into the cartridge, they will all start to skip when I start playing them in my car. I don't have this problem while playing a "normal" CD in the changer.
I never had this problem on the Alpine CD changer on my w202, so I wanted to see if it was just me.

Does that all the time...your best bet is using the dash CD for burned CDs...with the dash CD and the lil cd wallet that i have on my visor i rarely find myself using the changer either way

My 96 W202 skips like a little girl in a hopscotch contest with burned cd's, even on decently smooth roads, but with storebought cd's never misses a beat no matter where I drive.

Nope does not happend to me plays just fine. Make sure when you put the CD in the Changer slots that its not moving about and then once you push the slot back in make sure it`s tight and not loose and wiggeling. I do this everytime I put a CD in , burnt or a normal one and mine works just great. Now I have to see about a Ipod ingration kit in an 2004 C230

Mine is the original OEM cd changer in the trunk. Like I said, store-bought cds play fine and never skip at all, whereas any I have burned will play fine as long as you hit NO bumps (I mean like a concrete crack in the pavement where roads join or when going across highway bridges). Anytime you can hear the tires go click click across a bump, generally the cds skip. Could be that I am burning them too fast and they are not getting as hard a burn. I do know the faster you burn them the lighter the pitting. I havent tried a slower burned one. Maybe I should.

Definately try to burn the CD's at the lowest speed possible to get the best results, it may take longer but it wont skip. I know because I have discs that were burnt fast and some slow and the ones I did in a hurry skip ALL THE TIME.

I have three suggestions. First, burn slow. 12x to 20x is a good number. You can try faster, but work your way up so as not to introduce any other problems. Second, change your media. I find that certain media, despite cost, brand name, etc, works better than others. On an old CD player I had in my car the best media that worked were black-colored CDs, like PS1 discs. Just happened to be that way. Third, and most important, try different CD burning programs, even the built-in burner in Windows (assuming you have a Windows machine, of course). Usually I use Roxio and Nero, but, for some reason, my MP3 CD player only likes discs written directly by Windows or Roxio (since Windows uses the Roxio engine anyway). If I recall correctly, I always used Nero for my Audio CD burning for my changer when I was using it. The only time it skipped was when hit a bump on the freeway, else it worked perfectly fine. Good luck!

I'll have to give it a try myself at a slower speed and see if it makes a difference. Mine doesn't skip from simple road vibrations, it has to be a bump of some kind - but the bumps that make it skip are bumps that shouldn't make a typical cd player skip - like driving onto a simple bridge that has the metal joints between it and the highway or over concrete city streets with the joint gaps where you hear the "thump thump" every 30 feet or so. I generally listen to my XM in my vehicles anyway, but I can definitely tell a burned versus bought cd in the 202. Now my ML doesn't seem as bad to skip with burned cd's, but it is mounted differently in the rear. Of course I rarely if ever listen to cds in it. It is almost always on XM. I do want to try it in the C class though with a slower burn.

A burned cd from home may not have the same quality as cd's that are sold in stores by the record labels.

Mine skips and sometimes says CD Error. But the in dash reader seems to be alright. I noticed both the changer and the in dash reader can play CD-RW's. So if I have an issue with the discs skipping, I just delete the songs and burn it again at a slower speed.
