C180 Kompressor vs. C230 Kompressor?

Hello people, I have a simple question, it may have been asked and replied here before. I'd be glad if you help me
What are the "specific" differences between the C180 Kompressor and and the 230 Kompressor causing the different power and torque outputs? Is it feasible to get the same outputs from the C180 Kompressor? Any drivetrain, chassis and brake system differences beyond different grunt?

Thanx in advance

Welcome to the forum.

Your thread header specifies 180 and 200 but your post refers to 180 and 230. The 180 and the 200 are not sold in the US. The 230 was available in a 2.3L and a 1.8L.

You might be better served to ask this question on a European forum where these cars are more prevalent.

Which country do you reside?
The C180 has about 20BHP and 20NM less than a C200.
I have tested both cars and the power difference is rather subtle.
But do note that C200 has higher top speed.
From what I have read in the forum, both C180 & C200 has the same supercharger turbine, but different ECU. The C230 has a different Supercharger though.
Adding aftermarket mods eg Kleemann K-Box & their pulleys can bring C180 to C200 levels.
BTW, I think C180 has electrical seats but does not have memory seats & memory steering adjustment.

I live in Istanbul, Turkey. Due to the ridiculiously heavy taxes for high displacement engines here, I have to go for the forced induction route. (So, I cannot afford the V6 models) C180 kompressor is affordable for me, but I want 230 kompressor levels of performance. As I have understood, I need different ECU and turbine. What else?? Will it be feasible for me to make the conversion?

If you are looking at a 2003 or newer C180, 200, or C230 Kompressor, I believe they use the same size engine. In 2003 MB started using a 1.8 Litre in the W203. I can't say for sure in all markets though. In 2006, the US has a C230 which is a non-Kompressor 2.5 liter V6.

2005 C230K Sport Sedan, 6 speed manual
I am not sure what cars are sold in Turkey. If the Mercedes are the same specifications as sold in western Europe, then I believe the following is correct:

From 2003 to 2005, the C180k, C200k, and C230k all had the same 1.8 liter engine block. It is an inline four cylinder design. There are differences are in the ECU and supercharger.

I am not sure about differences on the internal parts of the engine. My research shows the C180k has a compression ratio of 10.0 to 1. The C200k has a compression ratio of 9.3 to 1. The C230k has a compression ratio of 8.7 to 1. So there are probably differences in the pistons or the cylinder head.

Gearing may also be different. I am assuming you have a six-speed manual. I will research further.

In 2006, the C230 went to a 2.5 liter V6. This is a completely different engine. The C180k and C200k kept the 1.8 liter four cylinder. The compression ratios for the C180 and C200 (see above) are still correct.

C180K
Its the same in Singapore - the highest output 1.8L you can get now is the C200K. Like what Kyosho1 says, in terms of performance, there is no significant difference between the C180K and the C200K.

I'd better change my question What are your recommendations for tuning the C180 Kompressor in order to reach 180-190hp levels? Will it be feasible?

I have a friend who changed added a Kleemann ECU (K Box) for his C180K (which brings the BHP & torque to C200K level), he wasn't satisfied after a while.
Then he added a Kleemann pulley set (modified to fit into a C180K), now he is satisfied.
Anyway there are other brands of aftermarket ECU & pulley sets which you can search in the forum.

Hi Kyosho1,

May I know where your friend did his modifications in Singapore ? I have heard that for C180K, u can only add the K-box but not the pulley. If it is possible, I am also keen. Thanks.

Hi Bro,

Great to see a fellow S'porean here. Are you also a member of the Merc group at Delphi forum? By the way, like to find out do you still service your C180 at C&C? This is because I was quoted a ridiculously high servicing price for my wife's C180. If you don't service at C&C, do you have a reliable external workshop I could go to? I was also recommended by a friend to go to Superworkshop at Ubi. Maybe we can have a meetup soon in S'pore. Cheers!

Hi Bro,

Great to see a fellow S'porean here.
==there are a number of Sporeans in the forum.

Are you also a member of the Merc group at Delphi forum?
==I am a meneber of that forum but didnt

By the way, like to find out do you still service your C180 at C&C? This is because I was quoted a ridiculously high servicing price for my wife's C180.
==My warranty is valid till next year end, so I still go C&C. Yup, high servicing charges, but I try to change certain parts myself that's not covered by the warranty eg. Borsh Wiper set at $58 (instead of $170 at C&C excl $30+ installation charges!)

If you don't service at C&C, do you have a reliable external workshop I could go to? I was also recommended by a friend to go to Superworkshop at Ubi.
== I think the Benzsolution guy is from Superworkshop previously. I went to his workshop recently to enquire about the Kleemann mods and S-class type tail lights and he was very professional and his workshop was tidy too.

Maybe we can have a meetup soon in S'pore.
==sure.
