tires wore out at 17000+ miles

The OE tires are gone, at only less than 18000 miles..
The stagged tires are michelin pilot sport 225/45/17(front), 245/40/17(rear)
I just checked out tirerack.com and costco.com, and they are expensive!
If I replaced them all, they will run me about 700 to 800 bucks, which is way too much not to mention that I am going to replace them again around 30000 miles..
Wife and I drive the car very "gently", since we have our baby on the car with us most of the time. I really don't need the ultra performance tires! Here in southern CA, all season tires should do the work!
Is there any other choise other than performance tires? I definitely need some thing could last longer??

PLEASE help.

since u dont drive as fast, hopefully you dont, since u have a baby on board lol, go for something "lower rated" like ie. say ur stock tires are Z-rated, go for something like.... H or something, and maybe go for a less expensive brand

but I still suggest u spit up the 800 for it, its worth it =]

just look for something with "longer tread life"

Be glad you got 17,000 miles out of them. Those things are usual bologna skins after 12,000.

Michelin Pilot A/S probably wouldn't be a bad choice for you. Or Bridgestone S-03's. Or Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's. All three shoud give you more wear. But the PS2's are the shiznit in my opinion; and tires are consummables, cost of doing business.... I think the PS2's are worth every penny -- especially with the wife and baby on board. Just my $.02

Actually, with experience on them, the GSD3's are one of the best tires out there, and are the best high performance street tire in the rain. And this is on a car with over three times the power and 2/3rds the weight. And for 17" in standard size, they arent too bad as far as price, maybe $600-700

Alot of people like the F1 GSD3's -- that's why i mentioned them. I have a car or two coming up on needing new tires and I may just give them a try.....

Yeah, according to the dealer, mine are in need. 17k and some change on mine. My big dilemna is 700 bucks for tires....or ~doubling that for rims & tires. Decisions, decisions. It won't be a daily driver for another 8 months...so I got time to think, lol.

All four of my tires separated at about 20k (I have an 03 that came with Conti Sport somethings). My replacement tires have about 40k on and they're still going strong. Keep in mind, the majority of my driving is interstate (~110 mi/day) plus I rotate them every 5k. Not being able to rotate a staggered setup is one reason you won't get great mileage from your tires.

I'm from So. Cal too and mine lasted a little over 20k miles and then I replaced em. I'd go with Toyo Proxes T1-R... Good luck!

that should be right. they're top of the line michelin's and should last 17k to 20k. they're very sticky tires.

I got 35,000 miles on my OEM Conti Sport2, mostly hyway.
I have winter tires on now. But I plan to get another 5-6000 miles more on the fronts, the rears are done and will have to be replaced in the spring.
Check your tire presure.

My rears are slicks, I plan to replace them with the PS2s. I know the milage is not great, but the tires sure hold the road. The best price I got was $220 including the mounting and balance, per tire. I have not be en able to beat the price. I can get the tire cheaper, but then the mounting and balancing takes the price way up.

I followed MB-BOB's advice and disregarded the recommended tire pressures.

Just keep in mind that the ultra performance also means you have a shorter stopping distance under braking. There are always trade offs when you get different tires.

get some Bridgestone RE750 or Yokohama ES100 and you'll be set around $600. They are the second rank sports tire of each brand since you are not looking for max performance.

Can't you warranty the tires by the manufacturer if they wear down less than the tire manufacturer specs? Tires are just so expensive and I don't understand how people buy wheels for 19".

Hi Frank,

Do you have any recommendation for the tire shop near DB area where I could get a good deal on tires?

Honda Grom
I have been running Kumho Ecsta 712's and they are low cost and low noise.
FYI.... the guy who mounted my tires on my new rims this past weekend was telling me how Kumho ASX's have a 30K warranty on them.... figured it's better than the 15K miles I get on the Ecsta 712's so in another month I will just switch to those or Sumitomo's.

Just go to Tirerack.com and order tires... it's easier and cheaper most of the time.

thanks to everyone's help! especially thank for Frank's patience in answering my questions.
Anyway, I have bought the yokohama es100 from tirerack.com and have a shop installed them for me. Will see how long they could last..

Thank you!

Jason
