AMG Sway bars - san diego
Just called Carlsbad mercedes benz, to have them install my AMG sways with my Service B...
they dont really want to do it, and its 105 dollars just for them to look at it to see if it can be done. I know people have had dealers do the swap in the past, anyone know of their service advisors name and which dealer in the San Diego area?
thanks

supposedly its because they dont think it can be done...
i am even willing to pay someone on the forum to do it. I would, i just do not have the tools or garage to do it.

Justin,
You're finally getting those on now? Dude, your car's been hurting for them for a long time!...LOL
Congrats! If I had the tools and was closer to D'ego, I totally would've helped you on this too. It's a Pain in the but install if you don't have a good jack or good jack stands.
btw...edit your thread title. Never heard of "Swaw bars" before...LOL...just messin'.

One question here, because I'm also doing it soon :
After the instalation of the AMG or other sways,or even new bushings, isn't it needed to do a steering alignment???
thanks

wish i was in San Diego with you guys to do the AMG Sway Bar party.
in early 2004, i got mine done (front & rear) at AutoWerks along with a whole bunch of other things.
Never needed alignment though. Only issue was the 10mm vs 12mm endlink threads.
But i bought new everything, so not to have to drill/re-thread anything.

Ask Hoehn parts for the wholesale price, it will be cheaper. Then do it yourself, just a few bolts and patience, just don't drop the car on your head, that would hurt.

at least as of late 2005, Hoehn is not doing the walk-up "Wholesale Price" thing anymore.

Ok guys, you can kick the suspension NOOB's *** (ME) if you want, but this is all new to me. Is it a really noticable difference? The parts can't be too much are they?
What I have always heard is that if you mess with suspension you should alays align after, is this not the case? It is alot cheaper to align than wear out tires right? I check my alignment every 6-8K.

both Doug and I were able to notice a big difference in roll, after installing AMG sways (Front & Rear). Did a few twistie canyon runs before & after, and i definitely noticed an improvement in handling.
Price: parts was around $250, + installation ~ $90 depending on the shop.
As for alignment. Yes, it is recommended to have alignment done after any major suspension work. Surprisingly though, and maybe even lucky, my car was spot on after the AMG sway-bar installation, and again after the CARLSSON/BILSTEIN RS install.
Tire wear would be a good indicator of bad alignment. I also check mine periodically, and would much rather pay for one good alignment, than a new set of tires. Aggghhh !

i'd give you the part numbers I used, which may still be on my monster Coupé thread,
but i'm pretty sure, that the part numbers have been superceded, as is common with MB parts after a couple of years. Also, the endlinks and bushing part numbers have changed several times, since 2003. So unfortunately, it behooves someone to do thorough homework to make sure they get the right parts. Mostly involving the end-links that are compatible with the larger AMG sways.
When I get back to San Diego someday, I may also consider revamping my 2003 Coupé suspension, to the highly-touted and praised "improved" 2005 Coupé suspension.
Not sure what all the differences are. I'm sure OUTLAND can give us a good run-down and comparison though.

I know that I don't know many of you, but this is a mod I would like to do on my car. So, if you guys would like to coordinate something, I'm in. Depending on the day I'm down.
