Disabled tele-aid and getting rid of the malfunction indicator on a 02 C320
Hi folks,
Is there I can get rid of the malfunction indicator for the tele-aid system if tele-aid is disabled.
I never activated tele-aid and don't plan to because I too cheap but it seems like on the 02 c320 there's no way I can get rid of the malfunction indicator in the display. Any suggestions?

I always thought you could have the dealer programthe malfunction out via the DAS laptop. Others say you can't. Call you service Dept. and see if they can be of help. Please let us know the outcome.

OR, (assuming you've bought a new car), sign up for your free year of Tele-Aid, which deactivates the warning message, and note in your Calendar to notify MB-USA in the 11th month that you're not going to renew for a second year. The warning message will NOT return when your subscription expires.
Costs you nothing, not one penny...
Activation clears the warning message...
You get 20 minutes of airtime free to use as you see fit...
You can verify the remote unlock feature works before yr 1 expires... (You can say to next buyer that it worked)...
You have some peace of mind in year one if you get stranded with new car...

Don't you think Teleaid is worth renewing on the C-Class, if only for the peace of mind? I think M-B (or the Teleaid service provider ATX Technologies) should offer bundled minutes in a renewal subscription.

thanks...yeah but I was looking for a way to disable without enabling it.
....because I always forget to cancel subscriptions to things....
I'll find out if I can disable it without activation (if any). Otherwise I'll just activate it for the free trial.
I don't want to activate it because the car I bought no longer belongs to me, and the relative that owns it doesn't want it since there's a cell phone.....
Personally, I think the idea is great but it's not worththe price. A cell phone plan with mobile assistance these day's don't cost that much. The only other cool thing about teleaid is that if your airbags deploy or you rollover, I think it automatically dials 911. But a friend of mine were talking about this and it seems like there is just to many external dependancies to make this system really reliable in an SOS system. I mean, if you're in that bad of an accident, it assumes basic things like your power to the system is left intact, the antenna hasn't broken off and still capable of transmitting. Maybe it's robust enough to withstand a major accident, but I don't know nor do I care to find out...
Anyway, thanks folks for the input

Update. This is straight from the Teleaid/MBUSA Telemetric people:
Question: If the customer declines service how do we remove the "1 Malfunction" message from the IP?
Answer: The "1 Malfunction" message will always remain on the IP if the customer declines the service. Legally it must appear as an indication to the customer that the service is not activated. If you scroll down that menu, you can see it says, "Tele Aid Not Activated" if you need to clarify the malfunction message for your customer.

Congress is not going to waste their time passing a law to allow telematics providers to annoy affluent voters with silly messages on the displays of those voters' expensive cars.
Ask ATX Technologies, MB's telematics provider, to cite the law.
