Help on shift knob install

Out Of Control!!
That was an auto - note how they push the knob to the right, and then down, and also the wire for the illumination of the "P R ..." indicators.
I have a hard time believing that part's necessary to remove the knob. I've done my manny many times over now, and it's a very simple operation, once you know how. There's one way to find out, though!

do you have an auto or manual? I'm assuming auto, from looking at the pics you have.
If you have an auto, it should be a direct swap. I have a 2004.5 and got an ash 2005 shifter from Steve (MBenzNL). I followed the shift knob removal wmv file that was on these forums and it was a direct swap. Pretty simple. Took a little elbow grease to take the stock shifter off, but once it was off, it was as easy swap.
Don't know what difference in shape you're referring to. You have side by side pics to show what you mean?

Drex - he's referring to the surround at the bottom of the boot.
xx - put a response over at the "other" forum, but in case you're not checking there, you just need to use your old boot with your new knob - as drex said, pics/instructions for swapping knobs has been posted here before.
If you really want that new leather boot, you'll have to glue it to the old surround, a dicey proposition at best.

From reading tommy's reply, I'm remembering the fact that I got the installation wmv file from the other forum, but there have been other threads posted on here regarding that swap.
I vaguely remember the shapes of the shift knob assemblies being slightly different, but I also just kinda forced (for lack of a better term) the whole assembly onto the plastic gear indicator and it snapped in snug.

How do you remove the lining inside the boot lid??
How do you do that?? I remove all the clips visible and some torx screw that hold the boot handle and removed that handle also, but it won't come off
. I can peel it off a little bit around the corner but sth is still holding it in the center, any idea?? Thanks in advance.

I think drexappeal and someone else posted instructions and pics. Had something to do with the 3rd brake light I believe, but not 100% sure. HTH

Being from Australia, do you have the warning triangle in the trunk lid? If so, you need to remove the clip that locks the triangle. Also, remove the plastic rivits on the side of the hinges. They are the ones in the recess of the black plastic covering of the lid arms.

Out of curiosity -- and I don't want to change the topic on this thread too much, but why do Audi's have a hazard triangle on their trunk lid and Mercedes cars not have this feature here in the US if it is available elsewhere? One would think it would be a good safety accessory... Just my two cents.

I'm confused...is the "boot" lid you're referring to the trunk lid or are we talking about the shift knob?
From reading your post, I think you may be talking about the rear plastic protective piece connected to the top of the bumper (that sits under the trunk). If you are, make sure that you got all the clips. I think there are 10 total (can't remember off the top of my head). The clips should be rectangular shaped on top (with a small indentation to stick a small flathead screwdriver to pry out). Only thing is, I don't remember there being any torx screws on this piece.
If you're referring to the trunk lining to get to the trunklid area, there are 15 clips total, along with 2 screws (from what I remember). When you are pulling down the lining, there is a male/female connector that needs to be detached. The male connector has a latch that needs to be pressed down and pulled out of the female connector (which is attached to the green emergency light). Since you have the emercency triangle, I don't know how many connectors there are for that. Assuming it's the same type of connector, it should be fairly easy to disconnect (much like the male/female connectors for the taillights - except smaller). Also, the plastic covering (that surrounds the trunk latch) needs to be taken off in order for the lining to be released easier.
If you're referring to the shift knob boot, not sure exactly what it is you're trying to do.

so getting that bracket won't work if you have your own fire extinguisher,
unless it's exactly the same size & shape as the one MB uses.
Which by the way is a GLORIA fire extinguisher.
