BRABUS Illuminated Shift Knob Installed

just installed brabus shift knob today.
light works great.
however, when i move the gear from P to D, the top part of the leather boot stretches all the way and it's actually bit short.
when the gear is in neutral, reverse and park, it's fine.
i already tried several times and every time with same result.
any suggestions?

just don't tuck as much boot section into clip for the shiftknob. That's also how it suppose to look.

the boot should be a little tight, from my stock one and Franks C32 shifter, the boot is a little more stretched

Removing an Auto Shifter Knob w/boot?

I just finished a search of the W203 forums on removing a shifter knob in a 2002 W203, with limited success.

I am hoping for more details than were in previous threads to replace my chipped shifter knob with a sweet carbon fiber aftermarket knob.

My 02 C32 has the leather boot around the auto shift lever. I managed to remove the chrome ring and shift indicator assembly. I even got the lower plastic retainer ring off by twisting it clockwise. Now I'm stuck. The knob does not budge. I appears to have a conicle shaped, plastic "tightening" nut now holding the boot and knob in place. Any ideas on how this nut comes out? It is too tight to finger-loosen and to cone shaped to grab with a tool.

Thanks,
Scott

with evertthing back in place, pull up on the leather boot and then pull the shiftknob straight up.

This is the best shift knob removal thread:
https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...ove+shift+knob

Sounds like you got the first few steps, just need to twist it to get it out. Takes a little elbow grease, from what I remember, but once you twist the knob off the latch, it should come right out.

Thanks guys. I can't believe it was that easy. I thought I was going to need a special tool to get it the rest of the way.

After I pulled the knob straight up and off, I had to pinch in the clips at the bottom of the next retainer to release the knob from the boot. Worked perfectly. I did not have to demolish the chipped OEM knob and did not have to cut the leather to reuse the boot.

Don't worry, Scott. I got scared that I was gonna break something when I first replaced the shifter, but after I got it off, looking back on it I felt like maybe I did something wrong cuz it was so easy. Same thing for the hood emblem. Thought it'd be much harder, but was very easy.

Glad you were able to get it done. Any pics of the new shifter?

Thanks. I am a little dissapointed that the new knob sits lower on the shifter itself. It causes the boot to bunch up at the bottom. I'm going to have to find a way to shorten the leather up. Take a look. It is hard to tell in the photos, but the knob is carbon aft, chrome forward. Matches better in person with the console in the C32 AMG, with its faux carbon, than in the photo.

Don't worry. Mine bunches up a little bit too. Only thing I could think of would be to take off the rubber trim, cut the leather and re-staple/glue the boot back onto the rubber trim piece.

It sure has a much nicer feel to it than the original. I think that, in 2002, AMG just glued a plastic overlay onto a stock C-class knob. The overlay sat higher than the leather surrounding it on the knob itself. This led to discomfort and chipping of the C32 logo overlay.

This new one is great.

Thanks to this thread I now have installed my old shift knob from my previous car, never thought it would fit since it was off a honda. Looks just like Scotts but instead of the chrome part mine is black. Looks amazing and feels alot better than the factory knob.
