Well, thanks to everyone who helped out on this. I got the new knob on. Now of course I have the issue of the boot being too tight so that when you shift it pulls up the trim piece! Why can't a part made for our cars fit as it should and why does there always seem to need some mofifications?

Anyway, I know someone mentioned the fix for the tight boot but I wonder if anyone has a detailed description, maybe with pics.

The people on this board are just wonderful with their help and advice, even when the subject is becoming overworn!!

I discovered, with the Schatz knob, there is a knurled knob on the knob shaft which is threaded. This is underneath the place where the boot fits on. If you loosen the knurled piece down the shaft there is more play in the boot and it won't pull the trim plate out.
