The New RSX vs. C230..
Ilker....
The WRX was a different story. It really had my attention for a while and I strongly considered it. To the point I had almost ordered one. Then I noticed the MB came with dual-zone AC, so I changed my mind.
All joking aside. If the C230K did not exist, I'd have bought a Subaru WRX Wagon. It is a pretty hot car, though somewhat 'raw' which might be exactly what you seek.
I had no problem comparing the Benz to that. It most definitely IS a true sports car. It is a true rear-wheel drive, has a peppy engine (which beats my Mazda Miata, my current driver), and the shifter is very short and I found it quite precise. Sure, not the raw toggle feel of an RSX shifter, but I'm not sure I like that anyways. I have a 35 minute commute every day and a little luxury doesn't hurt.

the rsx runs a 0-60 anywhere from 6.5-7.1, stock
so if you lined em up with comparable drivers, the rsx is gonna bust it up, but on the street, anything can happen.
as nice as the rsx is, when your driving it, you cant help but shake the feeling you have an upscale honda civic.
i guess i would rather drive a down market mercedes then an upmarket honda

I considered the Subaru, but it really, REALLY bothered me when they discontinued the coupe and went to a 4 door or wagon only platform. Something inside wrenches every time I see a four door "sport sedan"....rice-boys included.
The Subaru that I tested was like a rocket...only problem is: rockets explode. The way I see it, the WRX is a car just begging to detonate. They've maxed out performance, which by laws of physics and reason, will probably result in a less than reliable long term relationship. That, combined with two extra doors and the horrible seats in the WRX....was enough to make me cringe as I left the dealership.
Mitsubishi was another consideration, but they killed the AWD Eclipse two years ago.
So I took the plunge, demographics aside, and I like the C230 for all it's offerings.
