Only the amplifier and CD changer are connected via fiber optics to the HU. If you don't have the Harmon Kardon/Bose system, you probably don't need to rewire the speakers. If you do, you'll probably just need to reroute the speakers wires from the headunit to the amplifier outputs, since the speakers are still connected to the amp with copper wires.

I'm with mj though, the D3 is freakin nutso! I love the ability to match your interior lighting. I might be picking that up later this year.
Here are some pics of my D2 from today (sorry about the crappy lighting)

The only thing that kinda sucks is that it only has one cd slot so since it runs on DVD nav you have to have the nav DVD in to start a route then take it out and replace it with an audio CD i guess a CD changer is a way around this

Thats what I like about the D-2. There is only one slot but you can insert both the Nav-DVD and an MP3 CD and use both at the same time. I'd be suprised if the D3 didn't allow you to do that and if it doesn't, ouch that sucks!

MBWorld Fanatic!
I am waiting for the D3 too! I is supposed to come out in March... or so I've heard. The only drawback that I see between it and the AVIC-Z1 is that there is no voice commands for the navigation. But at almost $1000 less, I guess it isn't that worth it
