To all those who hit the 130/135 limit: What was your RPM assuming you were in top gear?. Please specify 6 Speed Manual or 5 Speed Auto.

Thanks.

For the 2005 C230 Kompressor Sport Sedan US Version. I've been told that there might be two completely different transmissions from another forum.

In any case. I've developed the following admonitions:

Per 1000 RPMs
I Gear 5
II Gear 8
III Gear 14
IV Gear 20
V Gear 25

It's a locking torque converter so I think this is a very fair assessment.

Theoretically, the C230K SS will do 150 mph with the limiter removed at 6000 rpms.

Also, notice that 1st and 2nd gear are pretty close together.

120 mph, many places around NY/CT.
Car drove good but didn't have enough oomph to get to higher speeds before running out of straights.

By Comparison my other cars:
2001 740i Sport 155mph (limiter), rock solid, could probably go a lot higher.

1999 MCoupe 149mph (limiter) Got to that speed very quickly.

1995 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD 140mph, crappy brakes when trying to scrub speed off

1992 Toyota MR2 130mph (limiter) Very stable at high speed for a tiny car.

1983 VW GTI ~90s ran out of revs

My ***** was rock solid and was completely stocl - i only had the sport package (but had upgraded to 17" staggered wheels)
In the Bimmer I only have Cosmo CAI such as mods. The speedo said 137mph but the OBC said 132mph. Speedos at high speeds are off. So I'll retract my prior statement and go with the OBC 132mph.

This week driving in the turnpike I was able to hit 130mph in the c240.

On the Autobahn, the inside lane is completely empty. People there have the concept that the inside lane is strictly for passing. Few people are in there unless they're going at around 200 mph or something extreme like that.

Sometimes I wished people would follow that rule on our roads. They should make the inside lane strictly for passing and for people who wish to travel at around 80 mph and up.

My two cents.
I can not tell you how right you are about the US needing to be more like Germany in our freeways and drivers, but just so you know, its against the law to get passed on the right in Germany, atleast on the no speedlimit autobahn, if you are ever in the left lane and someone going faster than you comes up and has to pass you on the right side (you should be in the right lane, the left lane is only for passing or very high speed driving) a cop can actually give YOU a ticket, I find that pretty funny but a good idea, with strict rules such as these its no wonder the Autobahn is so safe.

Yes, I'm well aware of such a rule. In Europe throughout, the inside lane is used strictly for passing unless one should be driving at an extremely high speed. This is also true for the escalators, should you ride one wide enough, you should keep to the right side if you will stand and pass on the left side if you are going to walk on the escalator.

I wished us Americans followed this protocol. Every single time I have friends visiting from Germany, they always complain about how stupid us American drivers are. I don't blame them.

I LOVE the way americans "drive"...it makes it fun to find a fast route through all randomly rolling cars & SUVs with drivers that are on the phone and have no freaking idea what is going on on the road at all.

greetingz,
Oh my, we're a mess over here!

I think overall, the roads in the US are still the nicest because they're usually wider than most countries' roads (with maybe the exception of Germany which has very wide roads).

However, the protocol that US drivers drive with leaves something to be desired.

Additionally, in Germany, once you get into any accident, insurance goes up even higher than what it would in the US and European auto insurance was already more expensive to begin with.

greetingz,
yup, absolutely! I love having 6 packed lanes to work my way through. It's so exciting! But, maybe that's just because I am very ADD.

C320
137mph

The feeling when it hit that speed was incredible. I could feel it still pulling until the moment it hit 137, then WHOSH the car stopped accelerating and it felt like I was just floating through the air. I believe this is because that is the point at which the engine loses out against air friction, but maybe I'm wrong.
