Cut front OEM springs 1/2 coil?

I know everyone is going to scream G-G-GHETTO. But I dont want to go to coilovers just yet, and the way the rear sits right now with my heavy sub box is perfect.

All I want to do is lower the front of the car a tad. Is it even possible to cut 1/2 a coil? Or would a full coil be a better idea?

Front what I've read as long as you don't cut 2+ coils you wont be able to tell THAT much of a difference in the ride.. I hope thats true because I love the comfortable ride of a benz.

Why don't you STFF and see for yourself the answer results of cut coils.

P.S.
Anything is possible as long as you don't come back and biatch about the advice you found on this forum. Live and learn. Or gain weight so your front will have the drop that your sub box gives you in the rear.

***screams ghetto!***

How long until you get a coil over kit? Why not look into getting H&R / Eibach springs. It'll lower your ride, give you a bit harder stance and you won't have to go cuttin anything.

I've heard horror stories about spring cuttin. Bottoming out, blown shock/struts, etc. Esp when it comes to MB, why would you want to do somewhat of a 'hack job'?

I would either got with a spring kit or just wait it out until you get a coil-over kit. No sense in puttin your ride at risk for a few weeks/months

I did not see any posts about cutting the stock springs (lots about cutting the H&Rs though) I was curious if anyone has cut the stock springs and how much of a drop this yielded. I guess I can try cutting 1/2 a coil at a time until I reach the desired ride height.

From searching the forums (before I posted) I found the consensus was that as long as you did not cut more than two coils the ride shouldn't suffer TOO much but obviously this is a qualitative assessment.

However, I'm not naive enough to take the advice of a random person over the internet as gospel. And thus was looking for more informed opinions before I go and make the irreversible decision to cut my coils.

Do not, do not, do not, do not, do not, do not cut the OEM springs in an attempt to achieve any benefit -- that won't be outweighed by the resultant negative ones resulting from F'ing up your springs....

That is why they engineer, manufacture, and sell aftermarket springs - so that you can easily pick and choose amongst them for the desired change or effect.

It also def unsafe to cut springs. The springs came like that for a reason. I knew this kid that cut the springs on his integra and later ended up buying all new springs b/c they ended up goin bad and he was having all sorts of trouble with his tread wear. I would just save up and do a siiiick coilover setup i really like the TEIN's.

I am selling my Eibach pro-kit, perhaps you are interested!

The condition is just like new, used only for under 3,000 KMs and the ride is just like stock Benz!
