Anyone lost a street race to a civic?

Not much fun. I know I didn't buy my C230K to race too many people, but that is horrible.

They add a few aftermarket performance upgrades and dust me. I need some AMG help here folks. Or some cash to buy a CLK 55 AMG and not worry. Maybe a 2002 M3?

I've beaten many civics. Its the ones that dont look faast that you have to worry about. Not the ones that have heavy body kits and the like.

That's like being upset about being beaten up by a woman, when that woman is Chyna. :p

Shouldn't be too hard to believe. And don't worry - you'll get used to it, as it will happen often if you challenge many people.

These kids can do all sorts of things to their Civics to give them speed and power, but I would worry that the car doesn't have the stability to handle that kind of power. I was a passenger in an Accord that lost control at 160 km/h and skidded off the road. That wouldn't have happened in a Benz or BMW, plain and simple. Your car isn't built for pure speed, but for a great combination of speed, handling, stability, and safety. Kids in rice burners wouldn't understand that.

Do yourself a favour... just remember, you're driving a Benz, and they're driving a cheap hopped-up econobox. What's to worry about? Just don't stoop to their level by racing them.

A Civic with a Type R engine can easily have 200hp pushing a car that's only 2600lb. If they have a blow-on turbo kit, expect those civic to have 250-280+hp..
Even you lost the race, you still driving home with a MB but not the Civic driver.

Is there a reason why there's so much hostility towards Honda? They're totally different cars, of course you can mod one for an extra 3-5k and have a car that'll crush most stock MBs. So what? Does that detract from what the Benz is? How about appreciating each car for what it can do?

I would now like to lead us in a rendition of "we are the world".

Actually, I drive a Honda (Acura), powered by a modest 142 hp engine, no mods. And I have found the car's lack of stabiliy, especially when cornering at high speeds, to be, um, shall we say... scary.

I think that anyone driving a Civic with 200+ hp is asking for trouble. The car is simply not built for those speeds. Not a knock against Honda at all... they do what they do great - best "cheap" cars on the market. But you have to be careful about what you ask it to do - a Civic was not built to handle those kinds of speeds, plain and simple.

I have a 2000 2dr Civic EX (zero repeat zero RICE access) and am thoroughly impressed by the cars ride quality, quietness, and backseat legroom.

believe it or not it rides just as quiet/smooth as the C320 !!!!!!!!

I'm serious !

and handles pretty good even tho it has the OEM 15" plastic wheels...very nimble...I'm considering putting 17's on it which will make it ride ruffer but handle better.

Its like a beater car for me...drive the crap out of it - but don't really care about it !

Totally agree.

You've got a Benz, if they pull up beside you to try and race, let them go, sure they'll have some pride for beating you, but later that night, downtown at the bar scene, their Civic has nothing on your C230K for sex appeal.

Kills aren't limited to street racing.

There's a commercial I think that has two guys sitting to race at a street light, with a hottie watching on the sidewalk. The guy in the luxury car just lets the street racer go and picks up the hottie and drives away. Wish I could remember what cars they were...

That was a Lotus... wow... I wasn't paying attention... those new T-birds look so good.

Even more to the point, the T-Bird got beat by something way better than a Civic, but I still consider the T-bird owner the real winner, the girl was a definite hottie.

So far I haven't had any problems cooking rice around my friend's school, UCI (University of Civics and Integras). I always beat them off the line, and leave them way behind, and then when I slow down to make a turn, they blow by at high speeds just to make a point. Although there was a Miata I saw the other day weaving through semi-heavy traffic at 100+(!). Although I'll drive fast, I'm not reckless...

All the time. Because I dont go with them no matter I'm driving a C32 or if I were to own a C-coupe. They dont fall on the same class. Its waste of time, and not worth to risk your life to race with those souped up Civics. A MB is for enjoyment, if you want racing, perhaps its not the right car for you!

Well, but can't "deflating ricer egos" count as enjoyment?

i have a benz to look good, not go fast. if i wanted to fly, i woulda saved up another few months and got the amg. i prefer a different awnser to the riceboys in civics, its my good old 1997 suped up red Mustang GT drop top. i love cookin' rice in big powerful American built horse, not the benzo. i just let'em ride by and make sure they see me laughing at their goofy sticker sportin', big wing havin', stupid azz techno music blarin' outta some stock speakers while they dance all by themselves in their p.o.s. ricemobile.

That doesn't say much with your example though. You ever seen the KIA commercial where these two guys come out of a night club. One guy is tryin to fit 3 hotties into his lamborghini or something to that extent. But since its only a 2 door and very compact he was having difficulty. So the guy with the KIA comes over, tells the guy he paid soo much less and blah blah blah then tells the girls, his car is a 4 door and much more comfy. Anyway, he dirves off with the 3 girls.

Sorry didn't mean to crap on ur example.

Thanks for crapping on my example!

Why do people street race? to impress! if you wanted to street race the heavy C230K is definitely not the car to have bought, so if you're looking to impress, do it in other ways!

That was the point of my example, get your priorities straight:

1. Impress yourself.
2. Impress the hotties.
3. Impress your family.
4. Impress your friends.
5. Impress your co-workers.
...
LAST. Impress ricers.

Cause in the end even if you lose to a ricer, who are they impressing? other ricers, and do you care? so don't stoop to their level (that's my example you crapped on! , but its all good ).
