Uninstalling CD Changer - Fiber Optic

I am uninstalling the cd changer from my 04. I need the glove box room. My problem is that the orange fiber optic cable going to the cd changer has male connections on both ends, so I can't simply take it out of the fiber optic loop and connect the other two cables together. It looks like I'll have to add a short male/male fiber optic cable, but I don't know what it would be called, or what the connectors are called.

It seems like there should be a way to adjust the loop without adding another cable

Any suggestions?

why not try duct taping it? it's a simple optical connection. as long as the
light is able to pass from one plug to the other, in theory it would work. there
is a question in my mind of light loss, but what the heck....try it if not just
so you can tell me i'm an idiot. :-)

but if you're trying to relocate the changer to the boot, i dont know that you
have a FO cable terminating back there, do you?

I'd be able to tie them together if the two ends staying in the car were both male, but they are both female, so there would be a big gap. The two male ends are on the changer cable, which is being removed.

On your cd changer the fiber optic cable stays with the changer?
On my cd changer I can disconnect the plugs and no wires stay with the changer. Can you take a picture of your changer?

Yes, I can disconnect the cables from the changer, but then the fiber optic loop is broken. If you leave the orange fiber cable for the change in the loop, the loop is broken unless the changer is plugged in

I believe it's possible to buy male to female converters? I was researching this at one point.. not sure if this helps you out though.

On my changer there is a splice connection about 12 " away from the cd changer connector.I can lift the metal clip form the connector and the fiber optic wire comes out , do the same thing on the other wire and then you loop them together by popping it back into the connector.

ps; when you take the optic wire out of the connector one side will be male and the other wire will be female, that's how mine was looped.

My problem is that both are male, not one male and one female like i was expecting.

Do you get some kind of error when disconnecting the CD changer? I just did that (having changed the HU some time ago) and I get no error for the fiber optic loop. The optical cable is just hanging there in the glove box.
