C230 vs WRX 0-100 mph
I lost by 1.5 - 2 cars

we raced from 0-100. After his initial jump off the line, he didnt pull any. So from what I witnessed tonight the WRX is a rocket off the line, but for 227hp its not much once its up to speed. A RSX also raced with us, I killed it, it was NOT a RSX-S. It was a stick too. Hopefully with the addition of a pulley it will be closer. I also had "Just" filled up with gas ( less than 2 miles from gas station) and had 2 guitars and 2 amps in the back also. He is a friend of mine and he had less han 1/4 tank and no other stuff in car, he promised another race, when the cars were equal. I will hopefully have pulley then,

Next time could you find someone with a RSX Type S, I'm really wondering if the 210 HP in those are really worth the $$$.

A real interesting comparison would be a Sentra SE-R Spec V. 175 HP with 180 lb/ft torque, but in a 2600 lb car, or a new Lancer EVO II (are they out?).

My bud has an SER SPEC-V and me and him are pretty much even....but it is pretty fast because he smokes GSR's. NOW the EVO 7 (coming soon) is running 13's stock (well if u consider that stock), so that wont even be a close race.

210? Try 200...and like a pathetic 140ft-lbs of torque. You MUST wind the **** out of it to make it go...and go it does. From 0-50 the C would likely beat it...but the bad placing of the 2to3 shift on the C and the high curb wieght make it somewhere less than a second slower to 60 than the type S. The Acura feels much faster than it really is...its is slightly faster to 60 and in the 1/4...but its still no MB

I test drove the SE-R, not the Spec V, and it sure didn't feel any faster than my buddies early 90's SE-R.

Beat out a pretend Harley cruiser today going up a steep hill. Not too shabby as he was trying hard and you can tell because he has straight pipes. I guess the pulley is doing it's job....

The Spec V is pretty slow, at least when it first came out all the owners were complaining over at the Nissan forum.

Now the Evo VII isn't going to be close, I think like ~300 HP, 0-60 is definitely less than 5 seconds, etc.

I think that, in most of these races, you need to preface it it with "I beat a bad driver in a...". I don't see any empirical data for why the same driver in both cars would yield the results that you guys discuss.

As far as the RSX, it's SUPPOSED to be driven at high rpms. I don't understand why it's a negative that you have to drive it the way that it was designed to get good results out of it. That's like saying, "I had to hit the gas pedal to get it to go."

Edmunds lists the Spec V's 0-60 time at 7.5 secs, which is comparable to the ccoupe.

As long as you can retreat to the always-comical "but I get to drive home in a Benz" argument at the end, you'll be fine.

I never said at the end of the night " i get to drive a Benz home". The most current RSX race was against a non type S car. Well, at least not in this race anyway I knew the WRX would cut me a new one, but I wasnt too worried about the RSX. I think if I wouldn't have had a full tank of gas and 2 40lb amps in the back it might have been closer.

Anybody have a C32 engine they don't want?

Ahhh...finally, a voice of reason. Funny, no one seems to complain about revving the S2000.

And I thought I was the only one that found that comical

One day kids will realize that the C230 wasn't designed to race. It sort of reminds me of when I had my 4.0 Ranger pickup truck and went to the track. It was the slowest thing there, "but, at least I get pick up my own refrigerator at Sears and not have to pay for delivery..."

Likewise. I noticed yours just after I changed mine, but then relized that I had been seeing yours for a while and must have filed it into the back of my mind. When that "poor-mans MB" thread started it had Durden written all over it so I had to change my sig. Brilliant film, one of my favs.

Now, back on topic:

They are pretty powerful for thier price...$17-18k i believe.

I think the advantage they have is when they are already running in high speeds. PRIOR to his turbo install...My buddy taunts other ricers by running side by side on the freeway, and while they are FLOORING IT, he is PUMPING his car (in 5th) trying to let them realize that he has one gear left and they dont....Its so funny....u should see their face when he shifts in to 6th gear and bones out with 4 of us in his car (& i weigh 230 ibs)...its a great car...i told my dad to get my lil bro that one...(but now i heard there are oil burning probs)

You know, I think your right. I ran one the other month. I had four people in my car, he was a skinny kid (pretty cool tho). We were cruisin at 95. Although I did take him, he was hanging pretty well. I wasn't sure if his car was stock or not but I was hella impressed. (We are talkin about that new sentra, right? )

No shame in losing to the WRX because they are mighty fast off the line. the regular RSX is not that fast.

a girl-friend of my sister has the RSX-S with intake and exaust. that car make around 240 hps. unfortunely she doesn't race, so i'm not sure how fast it was compare to those stock RSX-S

How does the new sentra SE-R Spec V have more toqure than HP in a 4 cyl. naturally asperated engine? its pretty rare to see that.

I know, it took me by surprise. I know it couldn't be my driving, it's hard to be a bad driver with an auto tranny.

Any experiences vs. VW GTI?

I have a friend that just got the 25th anniversary 337 edition GTI, and we raced one night.
I must say, he smoked me pretty good... 1.5 to 2 car lengths, about 1/4 mile. That thing is QUICK off the line. It's got the 1.8 turbo engine, 18" BBS wheels... pretty sweet.
I think the C230's curb weight has a lot to do with the loss... any ideas/similar experiences?
BTW, I still love my car

You had ~ 500 lb disadvantage with the GTI. If you raced an A4 FWD model (non-quattro model), I would like to see the results from that!

Ok I've seen way to many comparisons between the C-Class and the WSX. Granted if all you are concerned about is performance then it is a legitimate comparison but I bought the C-Class because its the best looking car on the market in my price range. As for the WSX, that thing is the butt-fu*king ugliest car I have ever seen. It seems to me like the designers had alot in common with kindergarden students trying to draw an insect. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth when I see one drive by.

Sorry if my post seems completely off topic but I haven't ever seen a post about the design of that car and felt someone should. As far as performance comparisons, just look at it this way, even if you lose you still look better driving off.

Whooo!!! Glad to get that off my chest.

ppl that are talking about the WRX have a lot of hp...remember..they are all wheel drive...which means they are going to fall victims in higher speeds...example...lets say modded they are laying down 230 @ the crank...thats only about 173 @ the wheels...which is around the C's teritory...as far as the Type S..haha..that cars a joke to me...with the car in stock form..they lay down inbetween 155-165 to the ground....
