Aren't you glad you asked? Every now and then I have to just go away from this site because of how it gets hijacked by people who have nothing better to do than bash each other. Looks like this is one of those times.
To sum up:
If you want a bit more quiet and refinement, including a softer ride, the C240 is the way to go; if you want a bit more power, and are willing to take the firmer ride and put up with the faster tire wear, then the C230 is the better choice.
In my mind, better still would be waiting for the '06s and the new drivetrains, all of which promise to be superior to what's in the car now. That may not be an option for you, depending on your needs.
Let us know what you decide. Just be prepared for another round of this nonsense...
You are the queen of drivel. Listen to your dumbass talk about lack of automotive knowledge...you can't even grasp HP, Torque and curb wieght. Its so simple, both cars have the same gearing, one has more torque, more HP, and less mass.

It's simple Physics. I love how my debate skills are attacked and then the only evidence I get supplied with that the 240 is faster is "I've driven both, the 240 is faster. Period". Wow, real scientific there, buddy. You've earned yourself a Dewey button. It might feel faster, but that's because the springs they put in there are for 70-year old men, and the *** drops down every time you step on the gas.
You want to get into buying power and who deserves to be driving a Benz? Why don't you ask yourself why you're not driving a Bentley instead of lamenting MB selling to the masses. I'm not going to sit here and justify why I chose to buy a c230 over a c350, or a 330,or an s4, or an e55, all of which I was considering, but I will defend my car's limited acceleration against the biggest POS in MB's line-up, the C240.
Only the 2005 owner's are passionate about their cars? I beg to differ...but it's funny, I don't see the loudmouth 240 defenders in this thread ever adding anything constructive anywhere else...
Ok boys...enough already. You win. Your car defies the laws of physics and is faster from 65-85 than the C230. Happy now?

There is too many factors that we dont know. Weather, altitude, type of gas, driver, etc. If you dont know dont assume.
Its funny because gearing has been discussed before on these boards and for people like me who have been on the boards long enough you would know these facts. By the way the SLK230 shares the same gearing as the C240. Another fact you might want to know. About the video thing, bring a C230 SS and a camera and lets run 60-120mph. Im in socal and bored currently so Ill even let you get the jump and Ill prove at least my C240 will beat a C230. I walk on CLK430 all day and night and even beat my own C43 from 60-120mph. Ill show you what the "biggest Mercedes POS" C240 can do.
Both cars are slow stock. If you wanted a fast car go buy a Evo or a STI.

seen your coupe... its nice for sure... still a W203 sans a trunk and 2 doors. Who on this earth though a see through rear hatch was sexy? When a 4 door can be had for nearly the same price I think the 4 door is the way to go. Guess MBUSA agreed given the coupe is gone from distribution.

yes my C230k was dragging an anchor plus I put 87 oct gas in it in an effort to slow it down...
the C240 of course was sparying a 100 shot and was being pushed forward by the finger of god

come on sir. 4 runs where the C230k was dead even with the C240 or FAR ahead at the start of the race. Each time, regardless of the distance the C230k was ahead at the start, the C240 walked away.
I just re-watched this video and I almost died of laughter. I hope to share this with everyone by monday. Got a full day tomorrow.
2) thats the *&^%$# 2.3 you are quoting. the 2005 c230 has the 1.8, or didn't you know that?

The 2.3 and 1.8 are 3HP apart. Yes, I know the 1.8 can't run like the 2.3, but the point is still valid...the lighter, supercharged cars are plenty powerful to take the 240.
To all C240 owners, this is why the bashing starts. Its goats like this small ***** owner, who comes in and thinks he's going to start some ****. Now, I'm supposed to be all offended, and respond in kind. See?

And even if it does...it doesn't prove anything. My Mike Tyson example...Buster Douglas beat his ***, how many times out of a hundred would that have happened again? It was 100:1 shot, and it happened. Everyone saw it. But 99 other times, Douglas would have gone down.
I'm sure there are instances of 240s zooming faster from 60-130, but they're abberations. It's just NOT in the specs. HEAVIER + LESS HP + LESS TORQUE + TERRIBLE TRANNY + UGLY + HIGHER DRAG= SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWEEEEERRRRRRR at EVERY speed. Ok, the ugliness has nothing to do with it...
And I'm not talking lame-*** 5-speed to 5-speed. Take the C230 at its best, the 6-speed, vs the C240 at its best (oh that's right, it already is) and THEN show me video after video of the street-sweeper 240 shredding the 230. Lol, never happen. Why did you guys buy the c240 if you're so insecure about its ice cream truck-like acceleration? :p You don't see 230 owners running around telling everyone how relatively fast their car is...and isn't the reason clear? We have nothing to prove.
When I had the 240 loaner waiting for my 230 to arrive from the dock, everyone who saw it asked hesitantly "THAT is the car you bought?"...when I told them no, it's a loaner, everyone responded with a "whew, good thing". Now with the 230 loaner, everyone says "wow, NICE car". SO you want speed? If that's what you need to like your car, you can have it.
