C240 hp add ons

You mentioned that a chip might not do much...

What if I changed exhaust, chipped and revamped air intake - could I gain 20-30hp?

Bosch +4s, a K&N air filter, and those Schatz exhaust tips should be good for around 25 hp.

For $8400 plus installation you can get 54 hp with a Kleemann supercharger.

For $3780 plus installation you can get 20 hp with a Renntech carbon fiber air intake, muffler and chip. Or you can get 10 hp with just the chip for $1600.

Brabus would be happy to swap your engine for a 3.8 liter of 272. hp. The price....? Well. they don't publish that, but if you can afford it, you wouldn't be driving a C240.

Carlsson will fit a 3.2 liter with 295 hp. Cost is probably similar to Brabus.

Vaeth has a range of V6's from 210 hp to 286 hp. Not cheap either.

An Upsolute chip is $500 for about 12 hp. $653 for an Eisenmann muffler will get you 6 to 10 hp. More extensive exhaust changes will add more hp.

The numbers came from evosport. http://www.evosport.com/product/perf/perf_mercedes.html

The largest gain I see is 208 hp for the CLK55 and ML55.

Are you sure about this???....I mean I really wanted to believe that you'll get 25 hp extra by just adding sparkplugs, air filter and exhaust tips (is this just the tip only...I mean.... not muffler from the catback?)

He was joking. We all know that real horsepower comes from yellow stickers.:p

To add...Carlsson also is making a supercharger kit for the c-class. I am not sure if it out for sale yet. Similar numbers to the Kleeman one.
Not very cost effective to try to get more hp out of the 2.6L motor. I cannot justify paying $3500 to get 20 extra hp from the Renntech kit - new airbox, exhaust, chip. I am not sure if that translates into real rear wheel hp gains. Oh well - if the motor can be tinckered with...I guess we will all try to get more from it.

KLEEMANN komprssors for V6 provide the following increase in power:

2.4L Stk 170 Komp 240 HP / 225nm Stk 315nm Komp
2.8L Stk 204 Komp 285 HP / 270nm Stk 378nm Komp
3.2L Stk 214 Komp 330 HP / 315nm Stk 441nm Komp

None of these are 54hp differentials- minimum 70hp maximum 116hp.

Why can't you put a pulley into a c240? Can you put one in a c320?

There is no Super Charger in a C240 or in a C320.

Then you should inform evosport that their site is wrong. They are showing :

2.6L Stk 204 Komp 260 HP / 189 ft-lbs STk 237 ft-lbs Komp

Pardon my math on the original post. That is an increase of 56 hp, not 54.

The brabus pricelist (this is one from 2001) quotes the upgrade from the standard V6 to a 3.8 liter V6 for EUR 15328,53.

One well equipped C240 + Brabus engine + Brabus brakes, wheels, tires and suspension + installation = C32 with a nice cash reserve. Or maybe ans SLK32.

Very true. I would not go for it. The only advantage I see is that you can have this one as a manual and you can't with the C32...

advantage?... ...i wouldn't think so...because who can shift faster than a already 35% faster automatic transmission?

the only advantage for a manual is on the race track where "prof driver" can do their toe and heel thing to keep the rev up when entering and exting a corner. manual are used because most of the time auto cannot handle the power as well as the manual trans do.

So? Why let that little detail stop one from putting on a performance pulley on a C240? Why should only Hatch owners have all the fun?

I am putting together the "Team Placebo Performance Pack" for the C240 and C320. It comes with a fresh set of High Performance Bosch +4 Plugs ("As Seen On TV!"), a K&N filter, High Performance Spark Plug Wires (think about that one!), a large roll of High Performance Metallic Duct Tape and a Kleeman Alloy Pulley (after you wrap your air intake with the Duct Tape to keep the intake cool, you can use some of the tape to tape the pulley to the intake).

This will be good for 28.6 hp, but more importantly, 30 lb/ft ft of torque. Of course, I will have some snazzy dyno graphs and charts to "prove" it (using the latest High Performance Dyno from Gluteous Maximus Dyno Co., Inc.).

At $2,800, my kit will be a bargain!
