What do you think of the visibility when reversing your C CoupE?

C230K Coupe/Orion/C4/C5/CD/AMG Spoiler/V60/TeleAid, 2 MGB's
Previous car was an Eagle Talon. That was like looking through a flat rectangular tunnel compared to the Coupe. The spoiler cut the view in half, the rear sill was way up there, B and C pillars were huge, and the rear side windows were tiny, so blind spots were everywhere.
My MG's visibility is far superior though...I never put the top up!

When you are parked on level ground and need to reverse down an incline, it's almost like repelling off the top of a cliff - you have to take a deep breath first because you just don't know what's back there. With my past cars I had to keep an eye out for the dachsunds, but with my C-Coupe, love it as I may, I even have to worry about backing over the Golden Retriever! :p

Within 7 months I've backed into 2 cars. Lucky for me the paint on my rear bumper is remarkably durable. The wife's and sister's neighbor's cars were not so fortunate...

So if you happen to be in my area; do not park behind any orion blue coupes!

Euro mirrors are a must in the Coupe. They completely eliminate blind spots.

I put one of those cheap small rectangular mirrors (from PEP BOYS) and in most cases it works ok. Before I back up though, I usually assess the obstacles before I get in the car.

At least then when I hit something I have an idea as to what it might be (plant, animal or inmoveable object).

The problem with rearward visibility is that most people adjust their mirrors by including the side of their car in the view as a reference point. This is wrong. You should adjust your mirrors much further out than that for a slight overlap in what you see in your rear view mirror and the side mirrors. Adjust them so when a car's front on either side is at your rear, the car fills the mirror. This would normally be your blind spot if you turn your head.

Once you get used to doing this it will become second nature and you'll be able to change lanes without looking back. I learned this in my daughter's advanced driving class. The Euro mirrors do this for you by widening the field of view but it's a lazy approach and may hurt you in the long run when you get used to it and depend on it and then drive a different car.
