With the supercharged M271 (1.8L) engine, would a dual exhaust set up provide hp gains, cause more loss than gain, or not necessarily affect the hp at all?

I'm just wondering because I've noticed that a lot of people are doing the dual exhaust swap, however I'm not quite sure how this will affect the performance on the C230 K SS.

For those of you who are experts/knowledgable on this topic, could you please post your thoughts/info/opinions?

If there are any other threads that I missed that you all feel would be helpful, please let me know.

thanks in advance.

Most times with the dual exhaust look, it's just a pipe and a tip to the other side of the car. Equalizing back pressure creates a gain. True dual individual pipes from a V block doesn't produce as much HP as an X or H type configuration.

In your case, on a I4, you're just spending money on an astetic mod.

I know a car with a chevy big block, custom headers and a giant 4" Y pipe. Why? Because after testing both true daul, H and X type configurations, the single pipe provided the best HP, and the most insane noise you ever heard.

Nice. Thanks for the info. You've actually confirmed what I was assuming, but just wanted people who were more knowledgable about it to tell me (instead of assuming that I knew).

Thanks again.

You seem like you know about exhausts...curious, kinda OT question. My A4 has dual exhaust setup, true dual exhaust (has one muffler on each side with it's own piping, so is that a true setup?)

If they had used a single muffler, just like the c230, would the power have been less? My A4 is also a 1.8L, turbocharged tho, not super

thanks bro.

I don't know the audi's at all. I know this, you have an inline 4 cylinder (I4), with exhaust ports on one side of the cylinder head. It has to split off after the turbo, so it isn't dual exhaust, but daul tips and muffers. Saying that, I don't know why'd they set it up that way. Are there two cats as well?

It has to be one cat. My wild guess - just a marketing trick. To make it look beefier.

The Audi setup is not a true dual. Its just a Y pipe at the axle leading to two mufflers. Looks nice...does nothing but add weight.

Yeah, that's pretty dumb, not just a tip, but the weight of the pipe/muffler.

I guess if it sells.

exhaust exhaust exhaust !!!!

ok so i was siting down with my friends and we, was thinking about an exhaust to put on the c230ss im supposed to be getting and we came up with a couple of idea's

1'st is finding an exhaust from a C55 and installing it on the C230ss i would have to cut the other side of the bumper but that's ok. but i was wondering how the performance would be and if it's even possible

2nd is instead of going to go buy a an exhaust for 1k ..how about adding a flomaster or magnaflow exhaust to the car what would that be like ??

i don't think i like the 2nd idea but if it doesn't sound bad and i can save $600-$700 why not ?

There are a lot of exhausts available for the C240. If you do a search Im sure you can find some info or post what you want. I know I posted pics of my exhaust when I got it. I think I even had a sound clip.

You're mistaken. Remus makes compatible exhausts, as well as Eisenmann, Supersprint, Brabus, Lorinser, Renntech, and many more. Contact Carlab (650-641-0194 or 408-718-2986) in Santa Clara and Darwin will take care of you.
