I ment to post this the other day.
I was leaving early in the mouring in my c230 coupe on wednesday and i started the car and the gas was on "0" (empty) the light was on and it said visit gas station or what ever it says, the gas gaudge could not go any lower than it was. And the funny thing was i put a full tank of gas in the night before. I did not know what to do and since i knew i put gas in the day beofore i knew i had some. Unless nothing came out and i got charged. lol. well i decided to drive to the gas station very close to me and see what happens as i fill it up. All the sudden like 2 minutes into driving i am watching the gas gaudge and i see it go up to full and the messgae and gas light went away. i could not believe it so i decided to not get gas since it was on full and drive and see what happnes. And since then till now its been fine. what could that have been and why did it happnen?
i decided not to go to the dealer unless it happned again.

I've been thru this two times. First time the guage never showed the proper amount of fuel (i.e. I never had a full tank according to the guage, even though the tank indeed was full).
Second time the guage acted just like BlackC230Coupe decribes above. Yepp, the solution is to have your dealer replace the fuel sending unit. This is a known "error" over the entire MB-lineup according to my local MB-Tech. Just like Lynn says, new sending units are supposed to already be phased into production, but I don't know since when... If you have your dealer change it, you will most certainly get a "new" model.
Good luck!

Well the new sending units in production suck just as much. I have a three week old 2003 coupe and it took about 30 miles of driving on full before the needle went up.
Does the gas tank need an 'air bubble' at the top for it to work or something?
It's happened on two fillups so far.. I am watching for now to decide next steps.
CHeers.

i have a 2001 c240 and the only time my gas gauge might not read acurately is when i leave the car on while fueling... my 98 ml320 did this also. but i have 25,000 miles and i gas up often... it's always accurate as long as i shut off the car when i gas up

Doesn't the users manual clearly state that you should shut your engine off while refueling?

actually its not dangerous to leave it running if you are not planning on going back inside the car....plus static is what makes it dangerous....so..if you have leather...you are probably better off
