Pros and cons of geting Pioneer AVIC d2

My friend that works at an audio shop called me today. Their store is having a sale for the employes. He can get the AVIC D2 with the ipod adaptor for 750.
What do you guys think about this? Is it worth it?
How good is this unit? I know it is not a dvd player but he says that he could install a dvd in the glove box, replacing my cd changer. I was thinking at a ps2.
Please let me know your oppinions. thanks.

Personally I prefer the MB Comand Nav as it's built in to car so it takes advantage of speed sensors, displays direction on the MFD, works with the factory wiring, speakers, CD changer and looks like it belongs there. The Pioneer is a nice unit, just don't like the motor screen that covers some buttons and vents and the aftermarket look of a bezzle to convert from the trapazoid MB shape to a standard DIN opening.

I say do it if they can give you a clean install with a high quality dash kit. the d2 does not flip up, it is the flat screen. it also has a great operating system. hopefully they have a steering wheel control unit so you do not lose functionality. also, if your car has tele aid then it wont work.

Yea. I love he eclipse but they are expensive. I also like the Z1 from pioneer but I don.t want to spend that much on a nav unit. The Comand is to expensive as well.

I'd go with the MB comand. If you are just looking for navigation and dvd viewing i'd go with the AVIC. The biggest plus to me with the comand is the clean look.

The AVIC-D2 is a double din unit that doesn't retract like single din units, so it doesn't cover up any vents or buttons when in use. I'd go for the D2, since I don't see the value of the MFD, and the sound from aftermarket headunits are usually much better than factory ones.

i say go for it, personally i'd go for Z1 cuz of the blue tooth add on, which is a 700 bucks system out there, and u get it for extra 100 bucks. i forgot what's the function difference between D2 and Z1, but 750 i'd say go for it.

BTW as i always say, stay away from OEM stuff, especially the COMMAND, it's not worth it, if u like the look, i suggest u take a pic of the command HU and stick it on ur existing unit, cuz the function is crap, might as well just put a photo there and pretent u have one

Too many to list
I say...go for it and show us the pics when finished. Though many people here say go for the OE nav unit, don't get it if you're considering really using it. First of all, it's the most NON-USER friendly nav unit out there. The POI list is sooo limited compared to the Japanese counterparts (my sister's high school isn't even listed). The only good thing about the OE unit is the factory look and display on the MFD. Try out the pioneer bec. I've seen it in action from a friend and it kicks the factory unit.

Thank you all. I will call him today and se what we can do. I just was not shure about the unit itself. I read about it and it does not seem to work that great with the Ipod interface. That is the down side for me. Comand is out of the question. I wanted pioneer because of this: ISO Connector
Fakra Connector . If I could get this and make it work I could keep the steering wheel controls.http://csua.berkeley.edu/~vaheder/st...A-R-PI.131.pdf
