My check oil level comes on all the time?

My check oil light comes on all the time and I check it and it always tells me it is fine and to continue with regural service. latly it has been coming on in red saying get it to dealer. does this mean my oil level is low or do I have a bad sensor? thanks for the help.

You do know how to check your oil level right? Insure that your oil level is manually correct. Could just be a bad sensor. When was your last oil change?

It could also be your oil pump. I had a Audi A4 where the oild light came on and the oil level was fine. I stopped driving it, and had it towed to the dealership, where they found that it was a bad oil pump, so even though my oil level was fine, the engine was getting nothing.

The manual says the only way to check the oil is through the dashboard which is how I have been checking my oil. It has been about 4,000 miles since my last oil change and it says 5,500 miles till service A is needed. Oh there is 119,000 miles on the car, always had every service A&B done on time since it was bought. I called the dealership and they told me to put in a half qt of oil and if that doesnt fix it then it is probally a sensor and that it would be really pricey to get that fixed wouldnt give me a price.

You are right, it could be an oil pump. If it were, thats a SERIOUS problem. But, I have never heard of a Mercedes oil pump going bad.

How many miles are on the car?

Bad sensor likely

I own a W208, and have both a dipstick & the oil level readout.

In the first year of owning, I would get those 'check engine oil level now!' warnings. There would also be the 'perform service now' messages as well.

I'd check the dipstick and it was correct level (engine never requires oil to be added-ever).

It was a bad oil level sensor - after that, never had the message appear again. They do fail - the dealer should be able to pull codes that record the history of those occurances.

I couldnt find a dipstick anywhere under the hood. how much did it cost for your oil sensor to be replaced? car has 119,000 miles on it just didnt know if maybe it burned oil a little.

This depends on the year, model and which engine your car has on whether or not you have an engine oil dipstick. On C-class cars, I think the dipsticks went away with 2003 models (or something around that time)

I have a CLK with the 3.2L V6, so it would be in different locations if you have the 4 cylinder engines (1.8L or 2.3L for example). The 3.2L engine has it on the front passenger side, between the cylinder head and the centerline of the engine as an example.

My oil sensor was replace under warranty, so I don't know what that part costs or the labor charge. On the V6, its bolted into the engine block above the oil pan - but I've not changed the part myself.

I have the same "Check Oil At The Next Gas Station" warning message on my dash. It is my wife's 2006 C230SS 2.5L-V6 6-speed. The car only has 8,000 miles on it.

It happened couple times when I was driving on the freeway. A beep on the dash and a warning messgae came up.

Both times I stopped the car, checked the engine oil. The oil was clean and full. I started the car again and the warning message was gone.

I agree that it could be a bad oil sensor? I have heard stories like that before.

The warning message is a bit annoying, I am going to have the dealer pulls the code next time I service the car.

Anyone have the similar problem on their W203 2.5L-V6?

With best regards,

There is no engine or transmission dip stick on the '01 C320. When you say you're 'checking it through the dashboard' what do you mean? There is a procedure (stff ) that allows you to check your oil level down to .1 quart graduations by accessing a special/diagnostic screen. Although our engine holds 8.5 quarts mine show 7.6 quarts after a change when I know I've put 8.5 quarts in. I don't think it includes what's in the oil filter.

how do you get the the special/diagnostic screen? I just turn the car off and let it sit for 5 min like what the dealer told me to and it checks the oil. I didnt know you had to wait 5 min to check it and my oil level was 2.5 quarts low. so I must have a oil leak or it burns oil bad my guess. I added oil and my service A went from 5,500 miles to 7,000 miles and the check oil message doesnt come on.

To begin the key must be out of ignition - insert key, turn to position 1 - press and hold odometer reset button until beep (about 45 sec) - press lower menu button (sheets of paper, one with writing behind it) screen changes to HW & SW rev levels - turn key to position 2 - oil level shown in qts.
