Im sorry the picture quality is poor, however I think you can see the difference between the color at least with the 2 different types of bulbs. The car on the left is a 98 C230 with Silverstars H7 for low beam, H1 for high. The car on the right is a 89 300TE using normal (I believe) 9004 bulbs. These are not the city bulbs as discussed in the first post, but it is what the SilverStars look like installed. It was taken on an incline and is not meant to show brightness (hence one might look brighter than the other due to glare, bad picture etc). Also remember there is 9 years between the headlight reflectors. But here is the picture all the same.

Harris, you mentioned PIAA 19169. On their website, they now list three different types... http://www.piaa.com/Bulbs/Bulbs-Miniature.html

19168 Super White
19172 Xtreme White
19173 Plasma Ion

Does anyone have any experience with these? To be clear, I want the brightest WHITE light I can get, but not blue. I'm leaning toward the Xtreme Whites.

OK, I bought the PIAA Xtremes (19172), but they have a blueish tint to them. Works fine for HID equipped cars, but not for my Halogen Lamps. Just documenting the observation here so others will know.

Wish someone had experience with the PIAA Super Whites (19168) who could sy the match the halogens better.

I'm tempted to ask if anyone has a set of those free Philips "Blue Vision" W5Ws that came with their headlamp upgrades that they are not using. I really like those, as they match the halogens very well. Would be willing to trade these PIAA's for those if anybody has them.

i really like the way those SiverStarz look in that picture, i'll probably get those pretty soon as i'm still running the stock light bulbs right now
while we're on it though, can anyone post pics. of what the PIAA lights look like, either in comparison to the stock bulbs or in comparison to the SiverStarz?

City Lights???

k, i feel kinda dumb asking this, but what are city lights and where are they??? i assumed before that they were just another name for low beams, until today when i was searching for some new light bulbs and came across two different sections/listings for lights: one category was city lights, the other was high/low beams. so what's the deal with this and can anyone explain it? thanks~!

It is a very low output light on the lower part of the high beam area of the light assembly, and I believe that it uses the #194 wedge bulb.

thanks for the reply, so when are these lights on? are they always on in conjunction with the low beam then? so really, when i've got my regular driving lights on it is a combination of city lights plus low beams?

City lights = "European" name for parking lights. The US MB W203 manuals calls them parking lights. I'd venture to guess that most participants on this board are in the US. Why all these Americans choose to call them city lights is beyond me. Funny, they don't seem as fond of the words boot and bonnet

ahhh, so that's what they are, haha, interesting point, the they dont seem very fond of the words "saloon" "estate" or pronouncing coupe as "coop-ay" either

I don't know, but I've been told that the Europeans call them "city lights" because in places like Paris where the street lights are "so bright" one can (and is encouraged) to drive around with only the parking lights... err, city lights. Some of our international friends will have to verify this.

They are parking lights. Look at your light switch. It is not uncommon in Europe to park your car half on the street and half on the sidewalk. You turn the light switch to the corresponding position so that the half parked on the streets has the lights on. This is done at reduced capacity to preserve the battery and to be visible to oncoming traffic. Not all streets in Europe have the abundent (sp?) street lighting that one is used to over here. In the older days this feature was actually provided by the turn signals. With the car off and the lever activated they would stay on without blinking at reduced capacity.

also keep in mind that the term "parking lights" was already taken. In EU most cars have 'parking lights' that assist you in seeing the car while 'parked'

but on the same note sometimes things are called different in other countries, because... well... it's a different country. Example: Jetta (US) vs Vento (DE)

EDIT: amdeutsch's explanation wasn't up when I replied, but same thing

Isn't it BORA now instead of Vento? Just venting. (j/k)

I have the PIAA super white wedge bulbs in my city lights and they illuminate bluish white, but much closer to the bi-xenon color than the yellow color that the clear wedge bulbs give off.

hmmm, i'm wondering how these would look with halogen lights as my car unfortunately does not have BIX , i do like the halogens a lot though in that they are very white looking and not as yellow as most other cars on the road, which is why i wanna replace my parking lights in the first place, because they are distinctly yellow looking and it seems to clash with the stock white halogens, could you possibly post some pics. of your lights on and post the model number of your bulbs? i read through some threads for the E class guys changing their bulbs and it seemed some were getting 2 different kinds, one more blue than the other, thanks a lot

Unfortunately, I don't have any night shots of my car, but I'll try to take some soon and post pics. I got mine from performanceproducts.com, check the link: http://www.performanceproducts.com/P...producttype=10

Buy the H7 superwhite bulbs for your halogen headlights and they should match very well: http://www.supremepower.com/category.../spplight.html

Anything but the LED's look funky with Bix. The painted ones are too dim, the tinted ones are either really blue, or still yellow. IMHO.
