Help, changed battery and loads of issues (Yes, I checked the sticky)

Hi, I checked the sticky regarding known problems after disconnecting the battery, but it didn't have much to help me. My syptoms are typical, fuel gauage not working, turn lights not working, hazards not working. I was pretty far out from a MB dealer when I needed it changed, so I had it changed at Sears. I was able to clear the ESP program by turning the wheel left to right a few times, can *please* anyone help me, I really don't understand why changing a car battery is so complicated

Neither does the rest of the world. SAM modules seem to destruct during battery changes that are "done wrong" (+ post removed before - post) but I think it's just more Teutonic engineer thinking about "problems that you haven't thought of" instead of using plain common sense about everyday/normal car maintenance.

I just bought a new rear sam unit and it seemed to have solved the problem, but i think there there must be a way of fixing the sam unit..

Interesting, if you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost you? Did you replace it yourself? I went back to Sears last night and the manager offered to pay for the damages if the dealer determined that changing the battery was the cause.

Thanks.

The best way to change the battery is to call the 800 number for roadside assistance, tell them your car won't start and you need a jump and possibly a new battery. They'll come out and check the car for free and if you need a battery, they'll install it for free for just the cost of the battery. Why bother with Sears, hope you are not getting oil changes there too. Now you will pay way more than any MB battery costs to repair the damage caused by the cheap Sears battery and grease monkeys they employ.

I don't have road side assistance, and the dealer was pretty far from where I was (road trip visiting family for holidays). In general, I always go to the dealer.

i paid approximately $350 for the rear sam unit and i let the mb garage install it. But they still cant my parking sensors to work!!
I tell u.... the workers here in the garages in thailand are definately not qualified to do such things.
Their working style is basically trial and error

That's too bad, I don't have parking sensors so I can't help you there. The dealer quoted me $280 for the part and $460 in labor charges (ouch), Sears has confirmed they will pay for the damage and even went to so far to apologize. There's a chance I'll pick up the car tonight, I'll let you know how everything goes.

If you are in the USA all MB's have LifeTime Roadside Assistance. Even my 1986 190E still has roadside from MB and I am no where near the Original Owner.

Thanks, that's great news and a great tip regarding road side assistance. My car is finally fixed and Sears has credited me for the full $700, phew!
