What is your favorite windshield washer fluid?

My car came with the cheap blue windshield washer fluid you could find in any gas station but up here in Oswego, NY it gets so cold that the cheap blue fluid simply just freezes.... which can be extremely dangerous. A friend of mine recommended the orange fluid made by Rain X which can be purchasesd at Walmart for under 3 dallors a gallon works well. He also told me that the Prestone one works well also. The Rain X doesnt freeze at all and de ices fast. I'd recommend switching over to Rain X or Prestone esp if you live in a place with lots of snow.

Being in Montreal (absolute zero here right now), I recommend the Prestone.

I use the cheapo stuff, and use the additives that MB uses. You can buy them at the dealer. There is a "winterfix" to add in the winter (works better when cold out) and a "summerfix" to use in spring/summer/fall (removes sticky stuff better).

At my dealer, the winterfix was only available in a 1-liter bottle (~$12 I think?). The summerfix was only available in ~20ml bottles (~$1). One bottle of summerfix is good for a full washer fluid reservoir. After some speculation at the parts counter, I decided the same volume of winterfix was also appropriate. It's been working well for me.

It may be that I am remembering the "Fix" part of the name incorrectly. But it's definitely called winter+something and summer+thesamesomething. I'll check the bottles at home later today.

I am hoping the phrase "absolute zero" means something different to you. I know it as -273C

winter formulas have a higher methyl alcohol concentration, and the summer stuff has more 'soap'.....all the pre-mix stuff is still 99% distilled water, bang for the buck would be in the concentrated booster formulas, that you add to the cheap blue stuff as needed.

the stuff you get at the dealership... for free. it's those little vials that are called MB winter or summer wash that you have to add water to.

if you pull up to the service drive and just tell them that your light came regarding windshield washer fluid that they'll fill it up on the spot for free, no questions asked. well, that's been my experience at BH Benz and DTLA motors.

ditto. I've done it 3/4 times. No questions asked, except "...can you pull your car forward, so we can check these other people in? I'll go get the fluid while you're moving your car..." LOL.

For those of you who are in the colder weather states, I can't even imagine how much of a pain in the butt it is with regards to washer fluid. I didn't even know there was a difference, to tell you the truth. I guess that's just from being born and raised in LA.

20+ miles one way to get free fluid. At todays gas prices its cheaper to stop off at the local autostore and buy the good stuff.
