By the way shouldn't cop have video cemara on their cars? that might be able to prove he ran a red light.

Sorry to hear about this and glad to hear you're ok.

About shops, last time my dad claimed the car there they let him choose which body shop to use. We chose MB Richmond and they did a very good job, well the resprayed the hood and i'd say that was a satisfactory job but everything looks brand new.

Korva did a really great job as far as I could tell but the suspension fix they did wasn't that good. I guess they sent the car (my aunt's) to an independent shop.

that sucks, your car was hot
But DO NOT bring your car to MB Collision Richmond Inc. I had them fix a minor dent in my diesel a few years back, they they left over spray everywhere, even in the engine bay I heard north van goes a good job though. and good luck with ICBC, you will need it

Please see a doctor about your pain. Minor bumps can be serious injuries.

Your damage is very severe. The front of the car has collapsed, and the engine submarined to avoid the passenger compartment. The slow speed of the crash did not cause the deceleration necessary to set off the airbags, which is good, because they can be painful, while preventing more serious injury.

Interview a few body shops to see if they are experienced with c class AMG cars. You will also need a shop with a Cellete frame and C class tools to pull the body back to the correct dimensions. If there are any cracks in the case of the engine or the heads, you should explore a crate motor as repairs will never equal those of an engine assembled by one expert person in a factory.

My body shop friend looked at the pictures and his instant guess is that you have about 25K+ damage. Add an engine, and your car is finished.

I have a lot of sympathy for you, I know how much you enjoyed the car.

I know your stomach is churning now, but everything, in time. will sort itself out.

I also pray there is no serious challange to your heath.

Moviela, I'm at odds with you. But I ask this in order to learn. The engine appears to be in a stock angle to its origional mount. Only the engine cover appears to have moved.

What did you friend mention about the engine? I will readily admit that you don't want to reinstall a engine with a visible crack, but this is self evident. I have worked with Clip Cars for about three years. These are salvage title cars that are considered total loss by insurance companies. Mostly Hondas, but the rule of thumb was to insure the crank was never touched. Because some engine acessories have damage does not indicate engine damage.

Holy @#%*!!

Oh man! That is definitely painful.

Personally I'd stick with the MB shop, you know they'd match the paint perfectly and stuff. I've used MB Richmond and they were pretty good (they didn't know how to properly take off my OEM mudguards and screwed them up though ). Also you know they'll only use OEM parts.

To the guy who wrote that MB doesn't do ICBC, are you SURE about that? They accepted my claim over in Richmond.

Hope you get back up and rolling dood. Man, a guy running a red light and heading for the driver's door is one of my biggest fears. If there is anything good out of this, it is the fact that you slammed into the guy instead of getting T-boned, now that would seriously suck.

ps which intersection was this?

Was the officer on-duty? If so, he will have had to write up a report on the incident. You should get a copy of that for sure. Clearing the intersection without lights and sirens is a violation (according to my cop father in law - Surete de Quebec) of procedure and will get him in trouble....he will state that he had one or the other on.

Good Luck!

Look at the front cross member. It has been folded to near vertical, and has moved to the rear. This has pushed the engine back so that the plastic engine cover hit the rear fire wall poping the cover up. While steel panels are somewhat stretchy, aluminum engine castings have very low tensile strength and crack easily.

What did you friend mention about the engine? I will readily admit that you don't want to reinstall a engine with a visible crack, but this is self evident. I agree with you that a crank that has moved in an aluminum block ruins the mounting points to the point that economical repair is not possible. As for using parts from salvage cars for personal project cars, where your footing the bill, it is acceptable. I have welded and machined Porsche cases from wrecks that work just fine.

When I buy insurance, however, I want to be put back where I was before an accident. If I did not have a cracked motor when I bought the insurance, I should not have one afterwards. Same with any aftermarket parts. If my car was genuine Mercedes when I purchased the insurance, it should be Mercedes after.

yep, i've seen your post. what was your car's damaged valued at?

i get mixed reviews about my car's damaged. one person will say it's totaled and another will say it's not bad at all. i dont want to assume till i hear back from them.

anyway, i should look into a monthly bus pass.
