Disc Changer

If i can't get them to through in a changer, does anyone know of a changer that has mp3 playback? do FM modulators cause a noticable degredation to the sound quality?

Go ahead and spend the extra $ and get a MB or a Becker cd changer. You get steering wheel control and a warrenty. Its worth it.

Be patient and firm and you should be able to get the car for what CarsDirect.com is asking including the CD changer.

There is just a few days left to meet monthly & anual bonus levels.

i would definitely get it it with the CD changer as well...i was thinking of having my own custom stereo put in but i would have missed having the steering controls...

with the current economy, i wouldn't be surprised if the dealers are willing to throw in the changer for free...

i got it for free and it didn't take any negotiating at all... i just had to drive an extra 100 miles to b'more to get the car....

but how often do you guys really use the steering wheel controls. I like playing with the real controls so much more.

I use steering controls almost exclusively

I only use the buttons on the radio to change disks or change from CD to radio. Otherwise Im always using the steering controls. They are very convenient and Im used to them from my other car which has them. Get the MB CD and enjoy all that its worth. It is not that much more after you add the install and everything else and its certainly worth it.

I agree with vinmanc32, I use the steering wheel controls almost exclusively. You only have to use the stereo controls to change sources (radio to CD to tape, etc) or to change from one CD to another CD in the changer. You use the controls in the wheel for volume and changing tracks within a CD.

I use my wheel controls so much, I'm wondering if I will wear them out (right after the warranty expires, of course).

if you never had the ability to control the volume etc using the steering controls, then i don't think you are going to miss not being able to use the steering. It actually took me a while to get used to having the controls in the steering (about 2 days :p ) but now that's all i use...

i wonder why they never designed it so that we could switch between radio->CD etc using the steering controls.... now that would have been nice

It's not so much the steering wheel controls but the ability to control the cd changer from the radio as well. With an aftermarket RF CD changer you'll have a remote control mounted somewhere to change CDs and tracks. Also you will have to use a preset for the RF signal. The remote would actually have to be fairly large and visible to display MP3 data. To me it's not worth it. If you have Comand then you can plug you MP3 player into the aux input.

Vince,
With all due respect -
COMMAND can only feasibly be installed at the factory and the dealer cost of it probably exceeds the profit they have on the car.
Just curious - did they special order a car before you agreed on a price? That's unusual, but certainly not unheard of.

yeah i ordered it with no down payment no price negotiation. I kind of know my dealer. When you have a large family (including my extended family) who all own and love to drive mercedes the dealers tend to do stuff for you to keep the family interested.
