Not sure if this works on a C240, but it does on a C230. If I recall correctly, turn the key to position 1 (maybe it's 2), turn on the lights, start the car. Basically it's a matter of getting the lights on before (or visa versa) the system does a electrical resistance check on the light circuit and throws a fault. Anyway, try varying combinations of the above and you should be able to figure it out and get them on without flickering.

aftermarket hid - lighting
hey guys,
maybe some of you guys did the homework already and i am just trying to cheat . i would like to purchase HID for my 01' c240 , i have aftermarket bulbs right now, but in my old age i think i should invest in brighter lighting. any advice? shop on ebay, used set, or what kind or brand are easiest to install (plug and play), how about housing, do i have to change the housing. i would like to go the least expensive route. maybe some you specialist can help me. thanks
i think giving me a brand and what model would help best.
oh, what does all those stages mean?

You might want to reconsder going with the cheapest available conversion, because there are some really bad ones out there. I just bought Philips VisionPlus halogen bulbs from Autolamps Online. There customer service was excellent. The hid conversion kit they sell is all Philips, bulbs, ballast/igniters, and connectors. If I were getting hid's, I would buy these.
http://www.autolamps-online.com/products/h7kit.htm
When they talk about stages, they are talking about the color temperature of the light emitted from the bulbs. The bigger the number, the more blue/purple the light appears. These bulbs actually produce somewhat less light than the standard hid's. Also, the human eye does not see as well in that range as it does in the range of the standard (4200 degrees kelvin) range.

You should do a search on it. You can find out the good and the bads. I love mine. I have a HID Plus kit with Hella ballasts. If you want a set I can still get a good price on them. About 10 other members of MBWorld has them. We all bought it together.

Those who want HID
I saw these on Egay, thought someone may be interested. Dont think they fit the C230 though, may be wrong.

Why buy a HID "kit" for $450 and ruin your warrany! When you can buy OE xenon lights for a little more! You get better light output, easier/cheaper installation(no wires to cut or tap into, I did mine in about 2 1/2 hour), warranty plus you can sell your stock non-xenons for $ or keep it when you sell the car.
There are a few sets that is on sale in the classifieds(including mine)!

I think your warranty on the lights is gone if you change them
I think your warranty on the lights is gone if you change them, regardless if they are oem or not. It's like getting a CD changer after you bought the car, it will only have a 1-yr warranty from the manufacturer, but not the car's 4-yr.

xenon replacement bulbs
i want to replace the factory xenon bulbs with a nicer colour. most likely the 6000K will look good. i know i saw a pic here some time ago but can't find it. two questions though.
1.) is it true that a 6000K, 7000K and 8000K xenon bulb will lose its colour by about 70% as opposed to a 5000K xenon bulb at 10% ????
2.) how much is it for a 6000K from hids4less or autolamps-online. also, its a direct replacement with no funny things happenig????
3.) what are the factory bulbs d2s or d2r??? are they interchangeable or not a good idea???
thanks.

almost forgot, i read in timmyc230's "lighting facts" that standard halogen wiring will eventually deteriorate. is it really necessary to get a wiring harness or is the stock wiring good? any suggestions?

The 6000K HID Xenon bulbs lose about 20-25% in luminal output over the factory bulbs. Additionally, the high colour temperature scatters easier in poor weather conditions, meaning you get more glare and less light onto the areas that you want it. Are you willing to put up with this just for the look? I wouldn't do it.
8000K bulbs are just plain silly. You lose even more light and the colour temperature is so high that it approaches the black in the colour spectrum.
