Without it set correctly, you can get them to work, but you have to put them on before you start the car, and sometimes that doesn't work on some cars.

I have no idea what difference the proper code makes internally, but there is a reason for getting 'em reset - and, not all dealers are willing to reset them, fyi.

Xenons, being rated at 35W, draw lower current than Halogens (55W). Therefore, if you have Xenon lights and the computer is set for Halogens, it thinks that the curcuit is broken, and cuts the power to the lights altogether, re-testing the circuit about every 10 seconds. This results in headllight flashing with the same frequency. Plus, a headlight malfunction message appears on the screen.

If thats the case why not just calculate the appropriate series resistance to fake out the system ? Then you would have no need to see the dealer.

i vaguely remember someone trying the resistor and it didn't work for some reason.

anyway, i think it better/easier to have your dealer just change the setting. you may have to look for an amenable dealer, you may be charged a few bucks, but it's worth the hassle.

Have you ever seen a 20W resistor? Do you know how big it would be? That aside, you'd have 2x20W heaters (as resistors merely convert electric energy into heat) under your hood working constantly, whenever the lights are on

those still look way way yellow to me...

I got the Polarg bulbs (M-4 P8713W)for the city lights...they're a perfect match for the "xenon" bulbs.

I post a pic if I can remember to take one !

Were those bulbs with a blue tint, or just bright white? I have white bulbs, and I'm still looking around for a bulb that will shine the same color, but not blue.

Talking Advice on upgrading to Xenon from Halogen for C200?

Hi all.

This is actually a question for my friend's 2001 C200 in Asia (Indonesia). His car originally comes in Halogen. He is wondering if I can help him order some kind of after-market Xenon for his car.

Thanks in advance for helping me answering the questions:

- Would it be too much problem to upgrade?
- If not, any suggested sites to buy?
- How long would it take? - both myself and him do not have too much mechanical skills.
- Does anybody have experience in this? Do we need to reprogram anything?

Thanks.

Chee
