Aftermarket HID Conversion Kits & required setting XENON=PRESENT thread
#1026
Dear clouz,
Can you tell me where can I buy this HID kit?
I live in Singapore.
On another note, I have tried mounting the Philips OEM HID kit and found it to be not comptaible because the error message is always appearing on the front dash. I then when to the MB agent and too ,they are unable to reset the computer to read Haogen to Xenon...according to them, its not possible on my 2006 W203 model.
Please advice....for those who can help me out with my HID problem.
By the way, I managed to return the Philips HID kit to the dealer and had the refund...just wondering if other HID kits like yours work for me...otherwise I might have to buy the original W203 Bi-Xenon lights set which is going to cost$$$...
Thanks for your comments.

OR you can go to www.mtec.biz and go to hid kit section
No error msg, so that is great, don't need to set xenon present or what not
Mounting ballast is up to you - there are pics of mounted mtec ballast on the forum, mine and outaurleague has pics on mounting it.
Otherwise, things are quite straight forward

HID Kit Conversion
After searching these forums and reading almost every thread on HID conversions, I still have a few questions/concerns.
I currently have the OEM frosted lens headlamps with halogen/reflector setup. I know some people have the exact same headlamp as me and they have done an HID conversion with no problems and it looks great.
After reading another thread on these forums, a member said that a HID conversion in reflector headlamps can produce dangerous glare.
So, the only other way to go is aftermarket depo projectors and to do a HID on those, but then another thread on these forums say that they have hotspots and reduce the effectiveness of the HID...
Sorry to make yet another thread about HIDs on these forums, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere.

My light beam pattern is identical between halogen and the HID kit I put on, I can't imagine there would be any dangerous glare unless you pointed the headlights higher. The Depo kit is great as long as you don't install HID lights in it, a few people had them melt. Afterall, it's just chinese made junk, probably cost them a few dollars to make.

Somewhere I posted a link to a site that talked about
HID and the technical stuff about it.
One comment they had was that anything above 6000K without a focused beam creates a lot of glare, just due to the light spectrum the way it acts.
Might have posted it in the other place...ya know what I mean?

advice for those with aftermarket HID's
i've been doing some trial and error experimenting with my HID kit from carlabs because i noticed that sometimes when i turn it on, it will say "check right low beam" or "left lowbeam" (and one light will not be on). every now and then my hid kit will only fire on one of the two headlamps and i had no idea why for the longest time. i posed this problem to the forum and some people told me that its common for them too and all i need to do is turn off the car and turn it back on and problem solved. in most of the time it worked... but not everytime... and it can be embarassing to do this in public with only one light turning on esp when its so bright.
over the past two weeks i did a little experiment concerning two scenarios:
(1) the first week i would turn on the headlights before/during starting the car.
(2) the second week i would turn on the headlights after waiting 1-2 min for the car to warm up.
RESULTS:
(1) about 1 out of 3 start-ups i got the error message and one of my low beams wouldn't fire propperly. thus, i had to restart and to turn on both lights (the error message would stay even though both low beams would eventually turn on)
(2) no error messages! not even one! everytime it worked fine.
My reasoning behind it is that the voltage of battery is a little low until we turn on our car and get it running. So when we turn on HID's before/during start-up, not enough juice is getting to the ballasts to fire both lowbeams. So when we wait 1-2 minutes first, allowing the car to warm up and the battery to charge up a little... this doesn't happen.
maybe this was too much writing for a simple "wait to turn on your lights until after starting"... but i wanted to back up my advice by my two week trial and error run. this already may be common knowledge, but its new for me.
hopes this helps some people...

do you have the V3 from carlab?
I have the V3 from carlab and for the 1st month I was getting the "low beam right" every couple of days but only on the 1st start up, but even with the error, everything was working fine

but anyways, yeah even if i get the error message and restart it works if the error message continues. but "1 malfunction" viewed really gets on my nerves... and i tried these scenarios several times to conclude that error messages can be totally avoided by starting up and waiting before turning on the lights. for me at least...
