HIDs and Police Attention
Just wanted to hear some opinions about HIDs and whether or not they attract the police's attention more often than not. I mean, a car with HID headlights and fogs will be eye-catching from far far away. Has anyone ever felt like they were singled out because they attracted the most attention at night?

Man....everyone seems to run 8000K...that seems to be really blue...so if people with 8000K don't catch police attention...I'm sure 6000K should be good =) (considering them for my fogs)

The only prob I've had with the cops is them staring at my car
That and them doing the raising their hand up then dropping it repeatedly to tell me to slow down

my experience here in NYC is that. Cops are use to HIDs! HIDs are everywhere in NY. from Chevy Astros to Range Rovers
if your in a more suburban area, I would put HIDs for headlights and foglights as well. what are they gonna do? give you a ticket for seeing better?
and also, I dont think they'll stop those newer European cars, b/c the cops have no clue if these cars come standard with it or not.
all they know is if the "Crown Vic" has HIDS or not.

I think I was a little vague with my question. I wasn't asking about being stopped specifically for having HIDs, but the attention that HIDs get, making you more likely to be pulled over for different offenses.

I haven't had any issues, but my brother was puller over in his Yukon. They said the lights were the reason, but he fought it and they dropped the ticket. It may have also been BS because it is slammed on 22s all blacked out.

Kev...I would think that around here near Boston, as long as your not driving aggressively, which the cops look for more these days, you'll be all set...It seems that at least 50% of the cars I see have HID lights.
For instance, the amber alert signs say "Police Seek Aggressive Drivers"...they even campaign on the radio stations, "This is trooper blah blah, Mass state police will be out in full force seeking agressive drivers

Unless something changed recently, none of the aftermarket HID kits are DOT legal or NHTSA approved.
If you read the wording on the aftermarket kit manufacturer sites carefully, you'll notice the answer to that FAQ question is written in a clever way to never directly answer the question of legality. It'll usually say something along the lines of "HID kits have been use in OEM applications for years...." but never, "The kits are DOT legal, etc."
