So what happens if you don't have the dealer do Schedule A service?

Does not having the dealer do the scheduled stuff void any warranties or have some other major negative effect? The other stuff that's included in the Schedule A is stuff that I do almost on a monthly basis anyway. I mean really....check the tires and the break pads???
Give me a break.
- Yes, you can easily do oil change yourelf, get an oil suction pump.
- You can reset the service notification yourself, do a search, its been posted several times
Just make sure you get the MB Approved oil and all...forgot where that post about the proper oil is...but i'm sure you'll find it...Mobile1's 0W-40 is all I recall...at least that's for my '03 C230K Sedan.

If you have a problem within the warranty period, the dealer may decline to cover it if you cannot prove that you performed the recommended maintenance on time.
VW had this policy, and would not cover damage due to sludge for turbos/engines under their 10yr/100kmile powertrain warranty - unless you could prove maintenance was performed according to the maintenance schedule.
