Hold back and advertising does vary by model, but it is not 6%. For C class the hold back is 3%. The dealer can receive an additional 2% if the buyer gives an excellent rating to the dealer on an MBUSA survey.

I always give an excellent on surveys because I don't want to deny the dealer his right to eat.

Car sales are measured in 10 day sales periods, and the deals flow better at the end of the period so managers can meet goals. If the goals are met, the dealer gets more of the desirable easy to sell cars (AMG) and other incentives like free cars. No more than one or two people at a dealer know the true cost of a car, so anyone you talk with not have the full information.

The advice about buying a home is sage, even in LA. Interest rates are going up, and if you wait the speed of increase will move your ability to purchase farther into the future.

No offense, but why does the dealer deserve excellent if they suck, as so many of them do.

Trust me, they make plenty of money.

If I receive service that is short of my expectations, I attempt to resolve the problem with polite patience directly with the party. I don't feel that taking money from people will make them want to help solve a problem.

While the dealer principal is probably well off, the sales staff depends on commissions from the survey hold back to meet their monthly nut.

I have a strict policy. Never touch another man's nut.

I agree that things should be solved if possible with the sales person or dealership first. But if something has not been resolved, then I think MBUSA should know about it. With that said, I rated my salesman well, but I remember writing in something about the Sales Manager because he was a giant a$$ and I had a problem with the dealership trying to screw me when I bought my car.
