'07 or '08

I'm graduating in a few days and am new to the world of MB. I landed a sweet job and am in the market for a new car. I love the C class and would like a little advice from some C class owners.

I am not sure whether to jump on an '07 while they are trying to clear them out for the '08s or just wait and get an '08. They are both beautiful cars and a huge upgrade from my pos '99 Tacoma.

I know I could get a smoking deal on an '07 and am afraid the price point on the '08s will be a bit higher, but I'm afraid down the line I might regret not getting the "new" one. Have any of you guys faced this situation? What do you guys think? I went back about 10 pages to see if this has been covered, so sorry if this has already been discussed.

hmm...well if i was in ur shoes i'd probably wait for the '08 even though i dont like it now, but since u say u like it, i'd wait. plus its releasing this summer i believe so im sure u can put up with the tacoma for a couple more months better to be with a car you like thats up to date rather than something you're stuck with thats outdated when u had the chance to get the newer one.

i'd go for the 2007. 2008 may be problematic due to the fact that it's the first model year. You can also probably find great deals on the 2007's.

Thanks for the advice so far. It really is tough to choose between a really good deal and a brand new model. One of the advantages I'm seeing in favor of me getting the '07 is that I will only be doing a 2 year lease, so it won't be around too long to get old.

I went through the same dilemma a few months ago, and for me it was the 07 hands down. 1st, I don't like the styling of the 08's at all. And 2nd, I agree 100% with E1000. 1st year of a new model is almost always a headache, been there done that. But, if you really like the styling of the 08, you have a harder decision to make.

if you're doing a 2yr lease, i'd definitely get a 2007. By the time your lease is up, you'll have a better understanding of how reliable the new 2008's are AND you'll avoid the first year rush.

When I got my 07 C350, I didnt know all the specs of the 08 C classes except from the weird styling from the spy production pics. I got my C350 because of the looks. The 08's have better features like new NAV w/ bluetooth, I wished I have bluetooth If you plan on getting an 07, get the C350 because the 08 C350 shares the same engine so performance mods can easily be done when they come available As you may know by now the 07's come in C230 and C350, the 08's are C300 and C350

I may be in the wrong forum, but I'm not that much in need of a lot of HP and I'm not real big on modifications. I'm just gonna be real happy with some leather, A/C, a smooth ride, and my 1st Mercedes.

I'm just curious.. what types of problems can you foresee the 08's having?
I'm assuming nothing with the engine since it is the same as the 07's..?

Generally it will probably be electrical related problems. I think its also the same with other manufactures trying to load up the cars with special features and stuff

Don't let the C300 moniker fool you...it is the same 3.0 liter engine in the current C280. Mercedes decided when the W221 S-Class came out that they would name the new car S550 to reflect its engine size of 5.5 liters. The rest of the world knows this car as the S500. MBUSA decided that American consumers prefer that the model designation reflect the engine size and so they are beginning to change that on many of their cars. The notable exceptions are the S600 and S65 since those numbers carry a certain "cache" in the automotive scene. The C300 is just the latest example.

Sorry, I forgot to mention about the C280's. I was just trying to imply the guy to get a C350 or better over the C230 if he can if he likes to get performance mods in the future

Congrats to you. I would suggest that whichever car you get, just make sure you consider all the options and get exactly what you want. I wouldn't settle, especially for the 2008 since there will be minimal discounts offered anyway. I speak from experience, there were a few options I wanted but could not find so I am now suffering and have to look into having them installed which is not easy. Also take a trip to your local dealership, the info on the W204 options is in their ordering system, I don't think pricing is yet though. You might also want to get your name on the list, because even though its not going to be like the launch of the new S or CL Class, it is still a highly anticipated car.

If you decide on the 2007 model you might have to compromise on options/colors a bit because they aren't making anymore. The selection will be limited to what is at dealers, the VPC, and on the water.

no problem, i just wanted to make sure everyone knew about the C300 name just being a new name since it has confused some people. I wonder if they will also change the SLK280 to SLK300 for 2008?

Speaking of SLK's, I saw an "SLK55 AMG" on my way to the impromtu photoshoot in Santa Monica. It only had a single muffler and the AMG badge was crooked. My gf was gonna take the picture but I flew by that guy

If you lease, you will not see much difference in the price. I had my hands on an '08 in S. Africa for a couple of days. I was suprised that it had MB-Tex instead of leather.

Isn't premium leather always an option for non-AMG's? I think my dad's 07 S said premium leather on the car sticker

There are four types of upholstry in a Mercedes. MB Tex (fake leather), leather, premium leather, and nappa leather

MB Tex is standard on C-Class models, and the E350, although I think the E350 has leather seating inserts which means that it is leather where there is perforations.

Thanks for all the input! I think I'm leaning more towards the '07 right now. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get it for invoice.
