My sunroof just started working after not working for months. It seems like it only goes back a couple of inches at a time and seems rough. I want to clean and grease the tracks.

How did you clean the the rubber and glass contacts? What kind of spray silicone did you use? I can't imagine that it would require an expensive MB product.

Thanks!

Since your roof is still functional, I think I'd take it in to the dealership for the "clean and Lube".

I just added sunroof to my A service last week and it was only an additional $32.25 (they only charged for labor). They also synced everything so my remote open is working too! Go figure!

I know my dealership lubed & greased my Coupé's pano-roof every single FREE Service A and Service B I had.
Now that I have to pay for Service A and Service B, I just complain that it's making weird noises, and it's done for FREE under WARRANTY.
When my warranty expires at 100,000 miles, I'm just going to buy both components, and I've seen it done enough times to do it myself.

I am just curious how to get the sob closed for good? My mechanics are ruined I am sure. Sounds like stripping noise, I know there is broken plastics and such that i took out of the rails. My problem is mine is about 1/4 inch from closed so it doesnt seal and the sunshade wont close because the pano isnt completely closed.

The mechanism can be manually engaged from behind the dome light assembly. You should have a hex (allen) style crank in your manuals portfolio.

What I don't know is if this method will work if you've got stripped/broken gears. I have experience with broken Mercedes sunroofs, just not this one .

Yep, I tried it, thats how I got it as far as it is. I had some idiot try to rip my sunroof open to break in the car which added insult to injury considering the sunroof was already doing the move 2 inches back and stop thing. I know some of the scissor mechanics are broke in the roof. I am looking for a tech who can help me with parts list, prices, ordering etc so I can get it fixed. My insurance company already wrote me a check to get started ordering parts but I cant find anyone who carrys the specific parts. MB only wants to sell me the entire assembly.

What you can do is manually close the sunshade portion manually...there is a motor for that one as well and he sunroof doesn't need to be closed completely to operate.

Somewhere on this site, I did a write up about closing a stuck sunroof. You'll need a torquey drill, a hex bit and some *****, but you can get it done.

Thanks for all the help.

A freak thing happened yesterday. I rolled my sunroof shade back to clean the glass and it automatically rolled back and continued to open the sunroof a little. Before the sunroof wouldn't work at all. Now that it is working I'm going to clean the tracks and spray some silicone spray on all the moving parts and rails. I guess it was a freak electrical problem. I may still have to fix the problem with the shade not rolling tightly but at least the sunroof is working.

just so that this doesn't keep confusing people when talking about the Coupé please refer to the big glass thing as the PANO-ROOF.

If you're talking about the W203 Sedan, then you can call it a SUN ROOF.

Mods, please merge with the current PANO-ROOF thread.
Thanks !!

I also added "Sunroof Service" to service B I had done a month ago, but they charged 77.50! wonder if that's labor + parts? oh well...

Those whose panos won't open, does the tilt up feature still work? The sunshades? Just curious. Also, is the tilt feature powered by the same motor?

No actually I don't recall creaking and cracking. In my case, the gear was stripped. It is in the above pics. So by applying upward torque with the drill I was making contact with the worm drive. I can easily put a new gear in and get her working again.

I looked for the gear, called the supplier of the pano roof (Webasto) and the manufacturer of the motor (Bosch) but could not find anybody to sell me jus the gear. Just because I couldn't doesn't mean it can't...I just got. I also tried a few dismantlers but was concerned that an old gear would be better but could still have some wear. I used white grease with lithium from PepBoys. I think the cost around $6 USD. I suspect that more important than the lubricant is 'keep it clean', you are good proof of that.

awesome ! Thanks

My Coupé might need it in about 5-10 years time.
As long as I keep my pano-roof clean and lubed, I shouldn't have any problems.

I had remarked: "I thought sunroof service was part of B service? Hmmm..??"

My mistake on the B-service.

7731-Sliding/pop-up roof and 7732-panorama sliding roof service should be performed every 3 years according to the Service Booklet.
