CL203 Coupe Pano-roof Maintenance - MB lube Grease Part #s, gears, & fixes

But which motor? There are two. The one on the drivers side is the pano roof. The one on the passenger side is the sun shade.
I'm excited to hear about your results. I'd love to have the Pano roof working again. Been about two years since I closed it.

I have found out that the whole shade must be replaced, you can''t just buy the clips. My only question is how hard would this be to replace? I am guessing the headliner will need to be removed.
Oh I have spent too many hours trying to close that damn thing...I know which motor controls which...I am a lil tentative about shelling out the 200 beans for the new motor though first I wanna see if I can remove the old one and if I can take the damn headlines apart...it would be great if someone would post a DIY on removign the headliner...if not I will have to be that guy.

Might have happened as a byproduct of the install of a phone kit.

I for one have not had a problem.
This is what I do. I disconnect the ground cable at the
body. 12mm bolt I think.
I make sure the doors are closed etc., interiror lights turned off, so no lights are on, so not drawing much current. When putting it back on, do so quickly. You'll get a small spark, but you want to do it quickly and make good contact to avoid to much sparking, which creates spikes, which could cause problems.
It's worked for me so far.

I have a 2002 C230 Coupe with the panoramic sunroof. A couple of months ago my sunroof quite working. The sunshade goes back and forth but requires you to press on it for it to roll all the way back without bunching up. It seems a little Once the sunshade reaches the point where the sunroof should open the button just clicks. There are no noises coming from the sunroof like it's off track or something. My local dealership is especially evil so I would rather not take it there. Thanks in advance for any help.
Your 4th sentence doesn't make sense, so it's hard to understand where the problem is. The sunshade itself, or the sunroof, or both?

I routinely (almost daily) use my pano-roof. Other than routine lubrication and cleaning, never had a problem with it. However, one day I took my Coupe in for Service B, and my SA called me to say that there was a linkage arm broken inside the assembly. Other than a very subtle "click" noise, I had no idea something was broken in there. The pano-roof opened and closed smoothly. The SA said that eventually, (maybe) it would have caused it to jam. I prepared for what would have been thousands of $$ in repair cost. However, it was covered under warranty. I'm so glad I got that extended MB warranty to 100,000 miles.

If no one can help with ideas then I plan on buying the service DVD and doing it myself. I bought my car used and I plan to do all the work myself...the service A and B and most things the car needs are ENTIRELY too easy to pay an inflated price for a "Mercedes-Tech" to do.
Thanks for the help!
There are a lot of posts regarding broken coupe sunroofs, but I haven't read any regarding a successful repair.
If you do tackle this one, take some pictures and show us what you've done.

If I do fix my problem I will definitely take some pictures and log "easy" directions for removal of the headliner.
Here's something to try:
- Get out the large Z-shaped allen key (should be in the owners manual)
- Pop off the sunroof/lighting control panel (STF for directions)
- Turn the manual override gear for the roof to see if it opens
(BTW all these instructions are in your owner's manual, with pics!)
If it opens, you're in luck, its either the motor or the gear on the motor that has failed and you can replace them.
If its stuck, something mechanical is broken in the roof guides, good luck taking apart the whole roof! I'd personally live with it closed.
It feels like the gear could be stripped? I first noticed it after having it open on a hot day (thought maybe the grease dried up).
I want to lube the mechanism, do you think this might help? Which grease should I use? Does the MB dealer sell it?
Thanks in advance

Motor wasn't cheap ($304), grease was $87 but was not in stock so I picked up a grease from Pep Boys for $7.99.
Any questions, fire away while it is still fresh in my head.
What grease did you buy? I clean the panoramic roof (rails, pop-up, ...) every 6 months and spray it with silicon lubricant, so far no issues after 6 years of ownership.
