M271 Gruppe-flip Intake Scoop (direct bolt-on) Fabrication
Initial reported findings by myself and others:
-The scoop obviously works best when you're already up to speed, 40-50+ and things really turn up...doing 80+ on a freeway (yes, freeway :p) you can feel that the car isn't so bogged down trying to get air. It's a straight ram, straight through design (no lag if the car wants air... and the way I drive it, the car wants air).
-Volume and supercharger whine go up and like Frank said, its a more even sound between intake and exhaust.
-Can't comment on the shift points, my SI tune accommodated for that, I'm at least 200rpm higher 1st through X, but throttle response is better the faster you're going.
Findings + my "other mod" (yet unreleased):
-The cold air effect is very much complete.
-Sound alone indicates a strong vacuum effect, if you were next to my car and I revved, you'd hear a "tch-whooop" (this might possibly be the stupidest explanation of what the combination sounds like) even when the hood is closed and slightly inside the cabin.
-I've only had my combo-mod for ~3 days, but I'm speed-fabbing to be finished when Blake arrives this Friday - yes, he gets first peek - before it becomes "prettied up" the next week.
-Of course, I'll do speed runs to test everything out structurally, like I always do...but I must say, my drive to work was fun (yeah, all 3 miles).
*I REALLY don't expect a waiting list on these parts - they're very one-off and will be laboriously expensive, but fact of the matter is, doing the combo of both will require an ECU-tune (not funny at all), and I've only ventured this far because I have a Kleemann FPR and a custom fuel-tune. Other kleemannized people I'd say would be alright doing both mods.

Hmm i wonder what you mean when you say "I've only had my combo-mod for ~3 days, but I'm speed-fabbing to be finished when Blake arrives this Friday - yes, he gets first peek - before it becomes "prettied up" the next week".
Well I guess we will just have to wait till friday to start sending our money, becaue I know the prettied up one will look just as nice as the cf air intake.
. I figured I didn't want to keep it ghetto, so I imaged my signature INSIDE the aluminum plaque:
Did it last minute at work.

Yeah. All for a silly plaque.

I couldn't believe how my car reacted to these parts. I never would think that, aside from dumping a grip more money into new and improved bolt-ons, there would be an improvement on how my car runs as is (even though the tune still needs to be finished up). That being said, I immediately felt the power in the LOW END! Contrary to where Jose felt the power in his car (mostly high end), for some reason, with the combination of all the mods I have on my car, it just added that little "extra" kick in the pants on the low end.
Even though a lot of people have gone with a Sprint Booster to get the consistent WOT feel, I can honestly say that with all my mods and putting Jose's custom intake scoop and project on...my car just went to another level and without a Sprint Booster. The low end torque and power was crazy. It provided the air that my car consistently searches for. Jose will probably jump in here sometime today and back up the claim because it weirded him out too. He wasn't expecting the results to be like this.
Now, I'm sure you're all wondering why I don't have one for me yet (especially after this test run). Well...if there weren't "other" things that may be on the horizon, Jose probably would've put one on my car already. He is one of 2 other people that knows how my car responds to certain mods and more air is definitely a plus.
For those that are curious about the rpm range, gears and mph that it kicks in...Well, for lack of a better way to explain it...it's immediate. At cruising (10mph), low rpms, you can feel it in the accelerator as soon as you step on the pedal. So any slight lag that I had before was completely gone. Jose said he felt it at 50+mph in his car. I felt it from 15-55mph, from 1st-3rd gear consistantly.
Now, I'm curious as to how it'll respond to fully stock. Here are some pics that we took last night, just to show we're not bs'ing about it.

I would like to say though, that Drex' M271 is something else after all those mods we worked on...talk about a jet, you can imagine the increased engine noise, definitely scared some dog-walkers in my neighborhood.

I was in shock after driving around the block. I actually wasn't paying attention to the sound too much, just cuz the performance response was so noticable. I didn't think I would feel anything at all on the performance side.
My intake may be completely different. We'll see, I may end up having this on my car, but...other projects in mind.

Supercharger sound was more prominent than before w/ Jose's custom stuff (and it is already very noticable with stock intake)

. It's only possible for me to "sign" the way it looks because I have a WACOM on my desk.

at the "prototype" pics!!!
