I'll bump this up for GynecologistMD..

Also I changed my oil today my in 07 M272 3.0L and Mercedes-benz could not have put the drain plug in a worst spot. As soon as the oil comes rushing out the oil pan it messes up everything.

one important thing to look out for is " when you pull the oil filter out you should have your belts covered with some towel or tissue or be super carefull as not to spill any oil on them, I have seen this happen and you can get your belt all ruined if not carefull"

just my 2cents

Confused...

According to my owners manual and the service shop, the tube in the back of the motor is the dipstick for the trans fluid, not the engine oil(my car is a 2004 C320). My car does not have an engine oil dipstick, and is measured via the dash interface. And I"m also aware that the C350 model is basically the same motor with more displacement.
So I am assuming that the oil fill tube is where the oil extraction takes place, as well as the refill. Can someone verify that I am not off my perch? Thanks.

Re: Confused

OK, thanks much for the reply. That clears things up. Now I think I'll start shopping for the oil extraction pump. Thanks again.

I agree on the Mityvac, I have that model and it works great. As for the filter cap tool I don't recall where I bought mine but it is OEM brand, model "B". It has 14 flutes but the diameter is not marked. If you don't have the cap style the strap type works fine for removing it, it shouldn't be too tight. The torque is listed somewhere in the manual and it isn't very much. Good luck.

Been changing oil in my 05 C230 1.8 for 6 months now and typically did it with 0w40 but got tired of the routing so I changed to the 10w30 extended life up to 15,000 miles. Does anyone know if this oil has the viscosity range?

Wouldn't call myself a mechanic but I have been doing standard jobs for years i.e. brakes, thermostats, etc.

How often are you changing your oil?
The 0w-40 can go 10k in your car as it is and is Mercedes approved why use a non approved oil?
Your car does have the paper filter so I would not exceed the 10k some on here like to do it around 7 or 8k but that is up to you.

Trey,
Kinda feeling like an idiot right now cause I just assumed as long as the bottle said Mobil 1 and fully synthetic I was good. After reading through the owners manual and some help from the folks on MBworld I got it all straightened out before this mix up cost me.

Went out and got 0w40 European blend and did my 3rd oil change in 6 months, now I can relax for another 10k. Thanks for the info man.

Mobil Oil is not bad but there are better ones. I will be switching to Amsoil next oil change. If you combine Amsoil with a filter from gopurepower.com you could easily extend change intervals to 15-20K and still get better wear protection.

The procedure was very easy but the oil cap wrench was the hardest part. I got it from a local auto store and it was wrong (too big). Then I got the correct size but I got 74mm 15 which means 74mm and 15 fins but mine has 14 fins. Then I got the 74mm 14 fins and it was plastic crap and it kept slipping. Then I called my dad over who is by the way twice my size (I am 130 - 5-8) and he used a regular wrench and took off the cap. I couldnt take it off with regular wrench no room to give force.

The cap is sooo stupid. It has an arrow pointing left which I thought you untwist it clockwise (almost everything is counter clockwise). Then I figures out it is counterclockwise and the arrow didnt mean anything. Why would they put and arrow I mean everyone knows which way to twist to get the cap off and the only time there should be an arrow is when it is opposite direction. Anyway job done. Now I need to get air filters and replace those.

Authentic Mercedes Oil filter (getmercedesparts.com) shipping and tax rounded up to 24.00

Oil extractor 10 Q - 80.00 (ebay)

Oil Mobile 1 0-40 Full Senthetic 7 bucks a quart. I got 9 close to 70.00 (rounded)

I was able to get out almost 8.0 Q.

Was pumping for 2 hours loool

Then I resetted the service interval. Go to Serve section (Service A or Service B)

Hold the reset button, you will get prompt that if you want to reset the interval press and hold reset for 3 seconds.

Then you will get fresh 13,000 miles.

Thank you to OP for the info and our members.

Hopefully you guys will learn from my mistake.

Also dont pump the Oil when its too hot. You are building suction in the barrel and when it hot it bends in. Thats what happened to me. Then you have to wait a while for it to pop back so you can get correct measurments.

Good Luck.

Air filter you are up next.
The arrow is telling you to tighten (pointing right) to 25Nm about 221 inch pounds.

Disconnecting crank angle sensor after oil/filter change

Just to revive this old discussion - I've read elsewhere that it is good to disconnect crank angle sensor (CAS) after oil/filter change to allow new oil to be pumped up before firing up ignition in an attempt to stop those rough sounds you get until oil pressure is achieved. In more conventional systems you can fill oil filters before screwing them on which has similar effect. What do other members think - and would disconnecting CAS throw a code or damage something elsewhere?

I pour right into the housing with the cap off. It's easy and don't need a funnel.

You mean into the oil filter housing, Yep thats what I do
Talk about an old thread!

BTW the oil "dipstick" tube is designed for extraction. My vacuum extractor connection fits in directly, no long tube.. O ring seal. Pumps out very fast! even has a mercedes star logo on it.

Why? Are there deficiencies in other oils that you can point to?

How about the fact that the OLM in your car easily recalibrates for "Standard Oil"

You may be incorrectly interpreting "standard oil" to be non approved. In fact "standard oil" is 229.3 vs the newer formulation 229.5 for 1998 to 2004 MB.
2005 prefers 229.5 or 51 (52 is for diesel only )

In your picture, W211 (spaning 2002 to 2009) may want 229.51 and standard oil may be 229.5.

as for filters, Mahle, Hengst seem to be the regular brands.
